Maddison

Recommended Posts

I mean, if he's desperate to play for England in a world Cup and nothings showing up on any scans then of course he's going to train.

The obvious worry would be that he didn't want to be injured for the World Cup so come off and doesn't want to be injured for a sale in January so isn't coming on to play for us either. Im sure he's not that type of person but it's a possibility.

You have to say we’ve been unlucky this season.  We could be unlucky again with Maddison. I don’t want to lose him this January but if no one puts a bid in for him next Summer we’ll be really ****ed over financially after Tielemans leaves for nowt. Hope he signs and extension, but if you were him would you sign it?

He’s out for a while. You don’t go down with the doctor to see a specialist in London if it’s just a niggle.

If it's a persistent irritant and the in house lot couldn't diagnose it you might do, I'm not saying it is or isn't serious by the way. Just that if someone had a persistent niggle that couldn't be picked up you probably would get a second opinion from someone specialising in it.

Out of curiosity, I checked Wikipedia to see how many matches he's missed for us since he's been here - a lot fewer than I'd imagined, it seems:

Per season, he's played in 36, 31, 31, 35 & 13/16 in the PL - and 38, 38, 42 & 53 matches per season overall before 22-23.

That's not too shabby for someone widely seen as having suffered persistent injury problems over his time here. Really hope he's not out long or it could have a massive impact in various ways.

It's interesting. My perception is that he struggles to get through 10 games without another injury break. Maybe the breaks are short. But he is someone who has something flare up periodically.

This is why I didn't want any of our players to be called in the national team. Afaik he was training with the team (on his breaks from TikTok). A complete shambles of management by Southgate and the rest of incompetent staff there.

National media hysteria about Madders been called up when we all knew he wouldn't even play a minute even at 100% fitness levels. A joke of a tournament with players putting their awards between their legs, celebrities running away with the trophy and full corruption at the highest level in every single department.

You may be right in terms of the length of injury but conversely you don't entrust any old consultant with a £50m asset. It may well be that the initial assessment is unclear and it needs the guy's down at the Fortius Clinic to give a definitive answer. That'd be the wisest thing to do rather than just plough on and potentially cause further harm. In fact I'd be more concerned if that wasn't our standard protocol for all knee concerns.

I’m reluctant to lean into any conspiracy theories because an injury wouldn’t do him any favours in terms of a move away.

This does feel like his run of form and luck are at an end though.

Darren Anderton MkII this lad is. All the ability in the world but not the body to use it.

Anderton picked up a couple of bad injuries that kept him out for a while  in his career at the time of big international tournaments.

I wouldn't say his career was exatly blighted by injuries more than most others.

He played almost 600 games of which nearly 400 were for Spurs in all comps over 10-12 years....so was fit most of the time.

I’m sure your stats are right, but he wasn’t known as Sick Bed for nothing!

Picked up 2 serious injuries around big tournaments that's why you probably think that.

I've not looked but I think if you look at his stats more closely you will see he played plenty of games on a par with most others I would say.

Don't take any notice of the media mate they love to build someone up and shoot them down. Doesn't mean it has any substance though..

We can only hope that the consultant can’t see anything and scans show nothing and the player is reassured and gets back to fitness fairly quickly.  he wouldn’t be the first to play with some knee pain - just have to be sure that there isn’t anything being made worse by doing so.

He only featured over 2/3 of League games in 5 out of the 12 seasons he was at Spurs. He played a good amount of games don’t get me wrong but it seems every time he got going his body broke down with niggles and he never really hit the highs he should have. On his day he was as good as Beckham.

It feels like the same will happen with Maddison who clearly struggled with his hip for a long time and now has knee issues.

I see he is fit enough to mince about at the darts, thank goodness.

what a stupid thing to say

It's almost as if a knee injury doesn't stop you from walking about normally but it most definitely will stop you from performing high intensity professional sport

Probably isn’t this but it could even be that our assessment has shown no issues hence sending him to the specialist.

That'll be Newcastle insisting on the specialist issuing a clean bill before they put Madders out of his Rodgers misery once and for all
