Maddison

Recommended Posts

Talented footballer capable of individual brilliance and a decent bloke who comes across as honest and amiable… but frustratingly feeble in both mind and body - and therefore not the man for a crisis like this one.

Genuinely wouldn't be surprised to see Newcastle come in with something so derisory like £30m in installments so we are rejecting offers all summer and he ends up lining up for us in the Championship until we finally settle on something equally as insulting. Bit like the Fofana situation.

Before anyone says how ridiculous this is, we have teams holding us to ransom and a club ran by absolute charlatans.

Looks like Maddison has now joined the other 24 of our squad in being declared an overrated waster by Foxestalk. It wasn't so long ago that this same forum was suggesting he should be a shoe - in for England. He has objectively been our best player this season in a disfunctioning team. As usual with James people think he can win games on his own , he needs other midfielders taking a fair share of the load and that has not been happening. He is probably too good for us now but will shine in a better team.

When the going gets tough...

Maddison hides.

Billy Ocean.

Above is the answer to this statement.

There is no doubt Maddison is a good and skillfull player, no doubt at all.

I have to question his mental strength a little, he seems easily affected by bad runs etc, possibly not enough strength on the ball at times, realistically he needs to toughen up a bit. On the flip side a lot of presure is put on him to 'perform'.

I quite like the way he talks for a young lad.

I guess his time here is probably done, and it may help him to be in a team of better players.

The last game of the season could go one of two ways (Providing we're relegated by then, which seems pretty likely).

Does he

a) fake an injury so he doesn't have to play or

b) drop a 10/10 performance where we win the dead rubber 5-0, followed by an "emotional" social media post?

Amazingly those performances and fight came at a time when Mr Selfish wanted to board a plane to the World Cup! His performances since have extremely been poor compared to what he's capable of.

He plays as if it's all about him ie tried constantly to beat several players against Liverpool when there were clear opportunities to pass to teammates. A truly good player like DeBruyne sees those passes, executes them and thinks of his team performance first. Maddison, who's constantly whining, thinks of himself and the shop window first. Klopp or Pep for example wouldn't put up with such individualistic behaviour and of course, he wouldn't do it there because  unlike here, he'd respect his manager and team or be sitting on the bench.

I think I'm general we have a lot of quality with this mentality.

I always said if we were to get out of this we needed to do it with 5 or so games to spare and it will be down to our sheer quality above anything else. A tielemans wonder strike etc. Never in a million years did 95% of this squad have the mentality for a relegation scrap.

All the players were asked to get the ball forward quick against Liverpool according to Dean Smith.

However Maddison seemed to be trying to dribble around players before releasing it.

I can only assume he was showboating for Dan Ashworth Newcastles DOF who was in the crowd.

Good player tbh but he'll be off as soon as we're confirmed down

Ashworth probably watching us as we are next opponents after Brighton.

Southgate and Holland in the crowd as well!

Gone proper big time since the world cup.

Back when our fans were shouting he should be included in the squad. Now suddenly accoroding to the same posters he's become one of our main problems.

Fair point, but the root causes of our lack of character probably aren't the same as the root causes of our lack of ability.

Yeah, times change do they not? He deserved it then, now you'd find it hard to even say he deserves to start over iheanacho in the hole.

And yet most of our best chances, when we do get them, come through Maddison still.

Noooo our best chances come through the player who sees most of the ball in the attacking 3rd??? Well I'm shocked, perplexed, astounded, next you'll tell me most of our tackles come from our center backs and Defensive midfielders

The “narrative” at that time was that he’d been a bit of a cocky lad about town but he’d had kids , buckled down to improve his game and worked hard on affecting the outcome of games rather than being more of a decorative luxury who’d occasionally provide a breathtaking moment.

He’s a great player and his interviews are refreshingly natural.  But when this despicable team has needed his inspiration the most, he’s gone missing on the field  and made il-judged comments off it. That says something about how good he is.
