This one baffles me as well. Anyone with their tin foil hat is welcome to educate me but I find it deliciously ironic that people are moaning at the loss of buses, local shops and centres to supermarkets and out of town shopping centres, but when something is done to try an alleviate it, it's suddenly government control. Like what do you actually want?

A rose tinted past that never actually happened as the future, for most of them, I think.

In the last couple of days I've seen a load of social media on the 'conspiracy' of 15 minute cities and how they are being structured to force control on citizens. Must have I'm fvckin baffled by it and cant believe how big this nutjob following is, hoping its a loud minority than anything else.

It's been floating around for a few months.

It's pretty funny that a rather benign town planning theory has become the source of the latest conspiracy hysteria.

It makes sense when you think about it though. The ruling class is behind nearly all modern conspiracy theories, they're just manufactured panic to brainwash idiots.

Given that 15 minute cities (or even just town planning slowly drifting in that direction) would be a threat to the automotive and fuel industries and hence some of the wealthiest people on the planet, it's not exactly a surprise to see it trending.

It's always just about money isn't it. Covid denial and lock down resistance was about billionaires wanting the factories to keep running, abortion and lgbt/trans hysteria is just about keeping the birth rate up to tackle the workforce shrinking, climate change denial is about selling fossil fuels, etc.

The root of all evil. And when you think about it, that's not far from the actual fact.

Of course money can be used for good, undoubtedly so. But money is the driving force in so much that's wrong with society and always has been.

Generally, wealth = power. Those who have money enjoy that power and will do almost whatever it takes to keep both money and power.

Using money to maintain power and power to maintain money.

That's my take FWIW.

Drilling deeper into this, it's power, or more accurately unaccountable power, that is the heart of the issue. It almost invariably corrupts.

Money is just one of the means by which that power is gained and maintained.

Interesting theory. I'm genuinely not sure whether you're spot on or creating/falling for your own left-oriented conspiracy theory......a bit of both, I suspect

On the one hand:

- It's well-documented that fossil fuel corporations have spent megabucks promoting climate change denial/scepticism

- Corporate-friendly, neo-liberal right-wing govts worldwide did, to varying degrees, seek to downplay Covid & minimise lockdown, doubtless greatly motivated by keeping profits flowing for big business

- The financial motivation is certainly there for big capital to seek an increased birth rate and to oppose 15-minute cities that reduced fossil fuel consumption

On the other hand:

- What are the mechanisms by which the ruling class/big capital is encouraging LGBT/Trans hysteria and opposition to abortion rights?

- Do vested interests really plan/act so far ahead to encourage a high birth rate to maintain workforce (and consumer) numbers? By definition, it would take 20+ years for them to see the benefits. Mind you, the Catholic Church & other religious groups have done so!

- Are powerful interests smart enough to think 20+ years ahead like that and yet stupid enough to encourage a lax Covid response that kills their workforce and consumers in the present day?

I'm sure your theory is at least partly right, but I'm not sure it's entirely right. Maybe it's more of an alliance of convenience between neo-liberal corporate interests and social reactionaries (promoting the abortion/LGBT stuff)?

If you look at this forum when Man City are challenged by another rich 6 english team either in the premire league or champions league, the majority of us would favour Man City by default. I guess their style of play helps as its so good to watch.

While thats OK its a bit boring to watch the same team winning everything.

What team can realistically challenge Man City but not be insufferable like Arsenal, Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea or Spurs? Newcastle long term is a possibility but they have this forum split too.

I was disproportionately excited to drive past the house from the "singing estate agent" video on my way back from Luton Airport today

A Michael Gambon production I was hitherto unaware of. Does he solves crimes in this too?

Well I think I might have solved the mystery of why the house wouldn't sell, whilst I sat outside it for ages in a massive queue of traffic.

His skin is a lot better in this one too, and you can't knock his singing voice

Incredible.

Having been a grey gamer for several years and marvelled at the cut-scene's cinematographic detail, this AI is a step beyond.

I can imagine a time where films won't need actors per-se, just voice over artists. And the fervent imagination of writers and producers. Anything could be possible.

@Jattdogg this could change porn for ever.

This is pretty awful though isn't it. The fact that so many people think it nearly rivals a real film says a lot about the declining quality of big studio films in recent decades.

Anyone considered giving up drinking and managed to sustain it? How did your life change?

I probably drink under 20 units of alcohol a week and the occasional binge drink, it’s crossed my mind more than ever the past 12 months to knock it on the head for good

Stating the mind numbingly obvious, but the difference it makes to my health and productivity by waking naturally as opposed to man alarm.

I've always been quite military in getting up early. Took pride in the discipline. Lockdown knocked that out of me. Now waking to an alarm crucifies me.

I still wake relatively early, say 7.15 to 8.15...but the difference it makes to wake when ready rather than 30 mins earlier seems disproportionately better

I have on average two to three pints of shandy a week.

Never been much of a drinker at all and never missed it. It boggles my mind when I see mates necking 6-7 pints of lager per night. After only two pints I feel bloated and sluggish. If I ever drank 6 pints I'd be being sick before I got to the last one, purely down to the volume and gassiness.

I've been told that if you've considered it, it means you need to do it. And yes I'm thinking about doing it. I just really like beer, and pubs.
