Not sure about that, it was signed August 2020 after 3 appearances one of those being the horror show at Spurs. He may not be on a stupid amount though considering it was that early in his career

Yeah but it's fine doing it when it's 18 year olds coming through the academy. You show faith early, tie him down to a decent contract and ensure he's not snapped up on the cheap. Occasionally, it doesn't work out and they end up seeing their careers out in the lower leagues like Mattock and Sheehan. There would be more of an issue if we gave him a 2 year deal and he left on a free like so many others last summer.

A long contract is 4 years.

6 years is only 1 year off the infamous 7 year Newcastle Pardew deal ffs.

Big difference between giving that to a manager rather than a player though. Someone's just gambled on him being another Chilwell and tried to ensure we get a payday. We need to offload him to L1 like Brunt, get a nominal fee and move on.

Be a good move for him if Birmingham came in. Big club in L1 rather than a battle in the championship.

The problem will be that he will have to take a massive paycut to go there permanently.  I don't know the exact figure but I am sure it is £20k + a week he is getting from us.  Who else is going to give him a contract for that amount?

At least with a couple of years left on a bonkers contract we might be able to make some money on a sale rather than him walking away for nothing.

Absolutely under no circumstances should he be allowed anywhere near the side next season, though.

Another player who is worth nothing due to the ridiculous wage we are paying him. No one will match his wage so we will be stuck with him for another 2 years.

23 years old and 68 premier league appearances. I still hold out hope he can make an impact next season

Only impact I want him to make is from somewhere like Outer Mongolia he is dreadful. Worse defender on the books by a country mile.

Lot of hindsight going on here, when he signed his new contract he'd just broken into the side, scored a worldie away to Man U and been part of a side that finish 5th and won the FA Cup.

They would have been uproar if they hadn't have secured him long term.

Obviously 4 or 5 years would have made more sense.

Still think he's another player Rodgers damaged with poor management.

Spot on.

Think he signed contract in 2020. So all he’d done was play a few games when Chilwell was unavailable.

I certainly agree he didn’t benefit from Rodgers.

6 years for Luke Thomas still wasn’t as bad as 4 years for Matty James circa 2017/2018 time.

Add 6 years for a broken Ricardo and 4 more years for Albrighton at a time he was a bench option at best.

We’ve been badly led for some time.
