Blame (mostly) the BCCI and the ICC for that. They want maximum revenue so they want India featuring as much as possible, hence the extended group format (which is at least a little better than the World Cup which just takes the piss stretching things out and excluding teams) rather than more knockout matches like in football.

The thing could be done in much less time if it followed a similar format to the football World Cups.

Astonishing India know where they'll play their semi final but no one else does. How on earth is that fair?

How does that work?

Not sure if it’s been confirmed yet, but basically the second semi in Guyana is at a much more favourable time slot in India (8.30pm compared to 6am). The talk is that while normally who plays where depends on where they finish in the second stage, wherever India finish they will be in that second semi.

Edit - Cricinfo say it’s in the terms of the competition. Also bizarre having a reserve day for the first semi final, but not the second. - https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/mens-t20-world-cup-2024-india-allotted-second-semi-final-on-june-27-in-providence-guyana-1433782?platform=amp

Also Guyana suits spin so quite favourable for a side that has 4 spinners.

Be funny if they play one with as many though or someone like us with Rashid or the Aussies and Zampa then lose!

This after they were allowed to change the pitch in the World Cup semi last year as well. lol

Provably a compromise after some teams withdrew players from the ipl. It's ridiculous how much power they hold.

Mainly because it was originally going to be played on a heavily used pitch, so albeit at short notice, no rules were broken.

Used pitches heavily favour spinners too. So it's not like we were intentionally screwing the other team over. If the pitch was in poor condition but not changed it would have been criticised too :dunno:.

I don't agree that a semi final venue for this tournament should have already be selected for one team only though. That's not right.

Be interesting to see how we go this tournament. The prep has been nothing short of disappointing with the weather heavily affecting the series against Pakistan. Flying out today and playing Tuesday as well.

Jos bringing it home again?

The England team flew out on Friday morning and landed late Friday afternoon, Barbados time.

I'll be at the game on Tuesday  :englandsmile4wf:

(Namibia v Oman tomorrow, first)

We better bloody well win on Tuesday, because Mrs Vac (Scottish and cricket-mad, who I am out here with) would never, ever, let me live it down, if we don't.

Jinxing it, obvs, but we are quality and I think we have every chance.

Ah yeah my bad, for some reason thought the Pakistan game was Friday 🤦‍♂️

Love it mate, have a great time! Not jealous at all

Also on this the ICC (BCCI) have hand picked all of the groups, no draw has ever been made. Basically plotting each teams route throughout the whole tournament

Shame the ground is empty.

World cup attendances shocking anywhere in the world other than England.

Was genuinely surprised how bad it was in India for any game not featuring the home side.

Think I've read that ticket prices are too high for many locals to attend in WI?

Australia 2022 t20 WC had  higher attendances than ours did.  Pretty sure India (av. 22,000), sri lanka (av. 24,000) and even bangladesh (av. 19,000) would beat our average attendances too.

Super over. :scarf:

Namibia have chucked this, if they don't win it.

Watched the first 6 overs of the Oman innings. Crazy first 2 balls lol Couldn’t believe when waking up it went all the way to a super over after leaving it at Oman being 37/4.

There were more security / bar staff / flag wavers than there were people in the crowd last night.

It's such a shame.

It was US$17 for last night's game.

They should make us tourists pay for (or subsidise) local people to get in.

If we've come out here, we should be able to stretch to fund a bit extra for the good of the game.

And they should give cheap seats to school kids.   That's better than empty stands and who knows, they might grow up to be paying attendees.

Fair but we're massively limited by capacity. MCG 100k vs our biggest (Lords?) at less than 30k
