Decided to watch this one today, first time in a long time, follow the thread on here so when there has been an epic race I'll watch the extended highlights. Picked the wrong day, I think, how dull.

Bottas wouldn't have got anywhere near Lewis' last lap even if he'd been given the go ahead from Mercedes. He's just not quick enough.

Mercedes really need to bite the bullet and get Russell in next race, send Bottas to Williams for the rest of the season, what an idiot he is, he was told they weren't going for fastest lap, which forced Lewis to pit and meant Max could play completely safe last lap.

 

Bottas is simply not good enough to be at a top team

Yes - the guys on Channel 4 even said last night qualifying was the most important thing all weekend and they only raced in the Netherlands due to the popularity of Verstappen basically.

 

There must be a reason why no F1 race had gone Dutch for 36 years..

It's a great track tbf, I wonder with the cars going back to ground effect whether that would improve the racing next year. I'm all for it on the calender tbh, keep the mix of new tracks and classic tracks.

its not a great track as it doesn't suit the cars, unless you basically outlaw aerodynamics tracks like that are horrible, as they said, you needed to be around 2 seconds faster to overtake

How much faster was Hamilton on those softs at the end ?  3 secs ??

With hindsight they should have pitted him around lap 60 and gone for a chase with a deficit of 20 seconds.

Not sure what Bottas was supposed to do. The race pace of Mercedes and the one stopper didn't allow him to do much against a Max who was very clearly in complete control of proceedings. He was told to pass Bottas asap and closed the gap down in no time.

The plan was always to bring in Lewis once they brought in Bottas, I don't know what you're on about. Lewis got the fastest lap by over a second or so in the end. Bottas gets so much flack, and granted, this season has been underwhelming, but he's been one of the most unfortunate drivers in my memory and at his peak rivalled Hamilton for pace. He's been a model pro and teammate, very rarely making a scene when the team very obviously have treated him as the second driver. There are not many F1 drivers who would sacrifice their own chances as often as he has without publicly blowing a gasket.

Bottas was only told not to go for the fastest lap in the final sector. He slowed down hut it was too late. They should have told him sooner. Team's fault.

He had kept Max behind him fairly easily until he made a stupid mistake right before the last couple of corners. That let Max get right up behind him going round the banking onto the finish straight, where he breezed by him. 

 

He could have kept him behind for a lot longer without any mistakes.

Bottas was told prior to the pitstop that they were not going for fastest lap btw

he was told on his out lap that it wasn't the reason for the stop

Still find it bizarre bottas wasn't a straight swap tbh
