If he did get away with it, essentially they are saying its okay to defend your position by leaving the track. Atleast Perez will know what he did wrong at Austria...

I wonder if they might state that the stewards made an error in Brazil (stating that they didn’t have all the camera angles as a kop out).   but that it’s not reasonable to give max a penalty for the following race  - he should have had that last Sunday. hence they are stating that driving like he did is unacceptable.

If someone on the outside is attempted to be forced off and the person trying to overtake was to say 'accidently nudge' the back corner of the defending car then surely that it allowed if forcing someone off on the outside is allowed?

I doesn't matter about the details as everyone has an opinion, the only thing that matters is what the stewards think. The reason that there won't be a further hearing is that if you start handing out retrospective action for every bit of controversy, where does it end? Should senna have been awarded a world championship even though he ran prost off, evidence says not, should schmacher have been awarded a world championship even though he ran Hill off to deny him a world championship, same thing. Once the decision not to award a penalty has been taken, you can't really change it, Redbull could have been docked  five seconds, therby giving Bottas extra points and taking them off Verstappen, but then Redbull could argue that if they'd known about have a penalty, they would have made sure their car was more than 5 seconds ahead, it's never ending. I think this is more to do with Mercedes forcing the stewards to be more vigilant in the remaing races.

Agree with all of that and assume they will remind drivers that they cannot deliberately push an opponent off the track in the pre race drivers meeting.

the stewards in Brazil cocked up - a 5 sec penalty would have been an easy call to make once Lewis had passed max and not had a big effect on things

Well a 5 second penalty would have dropped him from 2nd to third and his lead cut to 11 points. With how close things are a 3 point drop is pretty significant.

The whole point in penalties is to penalise.. why are we discussing penalising somebody to an extent where it makes sure they don't lose out lol

I know sometimes a 5s penalty doesnt make a difference to the final result but still

Hamilton recieved a 10 second penalty at Silverstone and won the race! That's what the whole things all about.

It made the task harder, just as a 5 second one would have done for Max. The punishment was correctly handed to hamilton he served it and had to come back to win… doesn’t matter that he won. It’s not like he finished 11 seconds ahead and was handed a 10 second penalty at the end

He knew what his penalty was during the race which Max wouldn’t have done, max could have ensured there was at least a 5 second gap.

If he had got the penalty when he should have then he would have done, but the point is Bottas was much quicker at that point so no he wouldn’t have been able to . I doubt max slowed down even when hamilton got in front
