Sly Posted 5 March 2022 Share Posted 5 March 2022 Oddly, if you look at conversion rate % for Premier League strikers, the list of players is quite surprising. It’s as good as any measure for a “natural finisher”. Vardy and Kane both feature obviously and are over 25%. However no Owen! Not that natural! Shearers numbers are insane though.

Fletcher goes under the radar but won an awful lot with Manchester United. Different position so doesn’t get the hype, however he was an integral part of the Manchester United system for years. Popular Post davieG Posted 11 March 2022 Author Popular Post Share Posted 11 March 2022 https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/how-national-media-reported-leicester-6786024 The Telegraph - Marc Albrighton rolls back the years to hand Leicester City the advantage over Rennes Marc Albrighton has already established a reputation for scoring crucial goals on European nights and delivered for Leicester again. Almost five years to the day since Albrighton’s memorable strike against Sevilla in the Champions League, the winger gave Leicester the early advantage before a potentially pivotal second goal from substitute Kelechi Iheanacho. Albrighton continues to prove such a reliable servant and flipped the momentum of this game with his emphatic strike, also setting up Iheanacho for the injury time finish which clinched Leicester a deserved win. It was Leicester’s first clean sheet in Europe this season, and a fourth successive victory for Brendan Rodgers, with the second leg in France next Thursday evening. Read the full report here. The Daily Mail - Marc Albrighton remains one of the most underrated players in the country but when Leicester need a big goal on a big stage, he's the MAN Is there anything in life with which you would not trust Marc Albrighton? Need someone to come and look after your dog for the evening, he’s your guy. Struggling with your tax return? Albrighton’s got your back. Looking for the right man to thunder the opening goal into the top corner under the lights on a European night after a shaky start to the game in a competition your club really needs to win if it wants to retain continental football next season? Yup, you guessed it. He’s not flashy, he’s probably not in fashion these days, but there’s few more reliable. This old-fashioned chalk-on-the-boots winger has done it so many times for Leicester City and, in his side’s Europa Conference League round-of-16 first leg at the King Power Stadium, it was Albrighton who did it again. Caglar Soyuncu’s raking pass found Harvey Barnes on the left, who shrugged by his full-back and played a cross into the box. It trickled past everyone into the path of Albrighton who met it on the edge of the box with a sublime strike that hit the top corner of the net before the Rennes goalkeeper could flinch. Read the full report here. The Guardian - Marc Albrighton strikes to put Leicester in control against wasteful Rennes Leicester have the upper hand against Rennes after the first leg of their Europa Conference League last-16 tie as goals from Marc Albrighton and Kelechi Iheanacho secured a 2-0 win. Albrighton put the hosts in front in emphatic style on the half-hour mark, cracking the ball home from Harvey Barnes’s tee-up. The substitute Iheanacho then added a fine stoppage-time finish to secure Brendan Rodgers’s side a two-goal lead to take into next Thursday’s second leg in France. Rennes had notable chances but were unable to make the most of them, while Kasper Schmeichel made a good save to keep out a Martin Terrier shot with about 15 minutes to go to. Leicester struggled to find rhythm in the early stages as Rennes made the better start, with Gaëtan Laborde hitting a third-minute shot narrowly wide. Read the full report here. BBC Sport - Marc Albrighton's superb goal set Leicester on their way to victory over Rennes in the first leg of their last-16 Europa Conference League tie The 32-year-old winger powered an effort into the top right corner after some excellent work by Harvey Barnes. Until then, the hosts had struggled to contain a lively Rennes side that sit fourth in Ligue 1. The Foxes' night got even better when Kelechi Iheanacho curled in a late second against the run of play. The celebrations around the King Power suggested many felt Nigerian forward Iheanacho's late contribution may prove pivotal to the outcome of the tie, which resumes when the Foxes travel to France for the return leg on Thursday, 17 March (17:45 GMT). Sky Sports - Marc Albrighton and Kelechi Iheanacho strike in first-leg victory A nervy start for Brendan Rodgers' side was blown out of the water when Albrighton smashed home Harvey Barnes' cutback from the edge of the box on the half-hour mark, following Caglar Soyuncu's defence-splitting pass over the Rennes defence. And while the Foxes were relatively untroubled by their French opponents in their first-leg, Iheanacho's curling effort in stoppage time feels like a big moment in their season - with Rodgers' men picking up a fourth straight victory in all competitions, plus a first European clean sheet of the season. Leicester were without Jamie Vardy for the King Power Stadium leg, with the Foxes talisman looking a doubt for this weekend's Super Sunday clash at Arsenal, with Patson Daka starting in the former England international's place and James Maddison on the bench. But Daka struggled to get involved in the early exchanges, with Rennes starting the better in the opening 20 minutes. Striker Gaeten Laborde, who has 16 goals this season, went closest early on as he met Adrien Truffert's cross inside the Leicester penalty area, but could only fire wide of Kasper Schmeichel's post. Popular Post davieG Posted 11 March 2022 Author Popular Post Share Posted 11 March 2022 Ouest-France, the local newspaper to Rennes, have a match report on the game, and while they could have tried to play down just how dominant Leicester were, they don’t. In fact, they immediately point out that the French side were ‘outclassed’ by their English counterparts and received a ‘lesson in realism’. One of the players who stood out at the King Power Stadium was Harvey Barnes, who assisted Marc Albrighton for the first goal, described by the newspaper as ‘breathtaking’ and ‘impossible to deal with’. Leicester won the first leg 2-0, and there’s still a chance Rennes could turn the tie around in the return fixture, but the task is now very difficult, and Ouest-France have almost resigned themselves to the near inevitability of the Ligue 1 side getting knocked out.

Will be interesting to see how they cope with having the extra workload of European football next season. Not having to play that many games has definitely helped them this season.

Arteta has bought a identity to Arsenal by buying young quality players who importantly are roundabout the same age which has made the players gel together better as they more likely to have the same mindset and being the same age makes them bond together
