We are getting the same arguments about Vestergaard and his lack of physicality. He and Benko are comfortably our biggest CBs. This is very strange to me.

Heskey was well built but using his strength was not exactly the first thing that came to his mind. Sometimes your size sets you up to be someone you are not and that comes with a lot of expectations from others.

  In this case, Benkovic is fragile physically and mentally, that first injury in Scotland has scarred him and he has never got pass it. Subsequent injuries has only reinforced his fears.

What’s strange?

He’s been injured, not played, came back and BR said he was doing okay, made the bench a couple of times. Then had been out with Covid recently.

Was Heskey wary of using his physical attributes because of concerns that referees would not allow it? Maybe Vesty has the same mental problem. He is so big he could knock opposition forwards over like ninepins.

...no for a big man, Heskey went down a lot under challenge!!!

It wasn't as an awareness of his strength being something that would cause referees to see his actions as being unfair to his opponents, just that he relied very much on his pace and skill and to an extent the ability to retain his balance under pressure.

   There are really tall players who cannot get off the ground, Cottee was very good at maximising his height. Wilf is good at elevating himself but is unable to time his leap effectively as he is usually coming back down when the ball gets to him. That is another obvious thing that continues and has never been remedied since he came here. If the coaches had pulled their fingers out, we may have a bigger threat at offensive set pieces as well as in defence.

Benko cost us £13m! An absolutely huge fee at the time for a young player from the Croatian league. If he doesn’t play tomorrow then he’s finished at our club. Would love to see him actually start for us tomorrow as I thought he’d turn out to be a really special player for us, but certainly not counting on it. Was really excited to see the lad play, but think it’s time we all move on.

Not sure anyone's obsessed just dumbfounded we have no CB's no players and he may aswell not exist.

 

I've seen players frozen out in the past but we're genuinely at a point where we may aswell pay his contract up and release him for everyone's best interests.
