How would you improve football matches

Recommended Posts

I think a forced temporary substitution for every player who goes down with a head injury would be the best rule football could bring in.

1) most importantly any player with a head injury has a temporary sub whilst a concussion test takes place. These test are taken by PL appointed neutral doctors who then give the player permission to carry on or inform the club they need to make a permanent sub.

2)Players would stop going down trying to con refs they have been elbowed, head butted, hit in the head etc. as they would be forced off to take a concussion test managers who lose a star play like KDB for 20-30 mins because he dived would soon put an end to it happening.

a 20-30 metre penalty... so if the foul occurs at the halfway line the resulting freekick is given 25 metres toward the foulers goal. would certainly reduce the incentive.

This is definitely something that needs doing.

Another thing that should be introduced is the awarding of goals instead of penalties/red cards for clear obstructions on someone who is about to have an almost certain goal. For example, a handball on the line to prevent a goal (perfect example Suarez in the 2010 World Cup, the penalty was missed and Uruguay still went through when Ghana should have progressed). Another example if someone is about to score into an empty goal and they are pulled back/fouled etc. This should be for clear chances that were almost certain to be a goal. If you are the last man and prevent a shot on goal with a keeper still in the net, then continue with penalties/freekick/red card.

Scrap VAR

Take responsibility for time keeping off the ref

Reduce games to 30 mins each way, but only count time when ball is in play

Defenders forced to retreat 10 yards immediately a free kick is awarded

Players allowed to pass the ball to themselves from a free kick

Players behind play when free kick is awarded required to remain behind play until kick is taken

That's enough for starters

VAR checks for any foul and if no contact is made and the opposing player claims it is, immediate yellow card. Overacting one warning then yellow card. Sick to death the way football is going so soft and players have full control not the ref.

Also more punishment for shouting at the ref / linesman.

5 minute tactical time-outs half way through the second half.  Final substitutions to take place during the time-out and no subs after (concussion/serious injury subs can be made)

Ban kick off from the centre spot after a goal has been scored.  Play restarts with a goal kick and can happen as quickly as the goalkeeper can get the ball out of the net.

Mic up the ref

Introduction of an orange card - 10 minute sinbin for tactical fouls/diving.

Offside rule is a tricky one.  It isn't quite right, especially with VAR but not sure I'd get rid of it.  How many great goals have we seen by fast players beating the offside trap from the half way line and racing in on goal.  Scrapping the offside rule would see less like Jamie Vardy and more like Andy Carroll.

I have been saying this for years. Book the player, give the goal.

Also, other folks have got there first but:

- mic refs, swearing picked up by mic incurs immediate red card/suspension

- sin bin, possible but could be exploited by teams

- retroactive suspensions for diving (unless VAR gets involved in which case just get booking people consistently for it)
