Possibly, but currently it's more noticable because the right-leaning posters, and in particular the 'Boris' fanboys, have nothing to respond with but a 'laughing' emoji. Even they can see what an incompetent, corrupt, self-serving bunch of clowns we have in government, headed by a man who is without doubt the worst Prime Minister in anyone's memory.

I agree for what it's worth.

What does the Independent article say? - Although I was pro-remain, The London Economic is a heavily biased Euro-centric site derived from blog activities and is using two Twitter posts as its sources.

What they refer to was reported back in September as I recall when Defra announced temporary relaxation of the rules in place until the end of the year to allow discharges from water treatment works that cannot comply with permit conditions because of "unavoidable shortages of chemicals" to treat the effluent. This is the third stage treatment process involving ferric sulphate which is used to suppress the growth of algae. They maintained that no water company had notified it of a shortage of the solution so emphasised that it was introducing the regulatory position as a precautionary measure in the event of supply chain failure...absolutely as a result of Brexit.

However, the 85% increase in sewage pollution of rivers is not due to this, rather, is caused by a massive increase in sewer overflow. Sewage discharge usually only happens when heavy rainfall adds too much water to wastewater treatment plants. This is really concerning, because not only are we experiencing more extreme rainfall due to climate change, but sewage contains high levels of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria which are likely to contribute to the emergence of new resistance mechanisms in human pathogens.

Saying all that, it's not simply overflow exceeding the capacity of the dated infrastructure, from memory, several water authorities are currently under investigation by the EA and ofwat for intentionally releasing untreated sewage. Recent amendments to the Environmental Bill demands that water companies significantly reduce storm overflows and ensures that the legal tools in place to hold water companies accountable. This needs to happen as a matter of urgency.

It's the working hours as well for MPs that are also the issue. There are regular votes / meetings outside of NWH for nurseries.

The fact that there aren't many new mums is a bit of chicken and egg as there definitely won't be if there's no crèche provision

Really don't like this proper anti-protest stance Patel is taking. I've long seen this bunch as bottom of the barrel grifters who've clung on to their jobs but she's properly turning insidious and really comes across as a nasty piece of work.

Where are these fvcking libertarians when there is actually a real threat to liberty?

:dunno:

The messengers may have their own agenda, which is a separate issue.

The message itself is clear, unequivocal scientific fact and it would be better if more time and attention was brought to that, because as much as climate change has apparently entered the public consciousness, what we're doing simply isn't enough to prevent drastic and nasty changes.

Everyone who I know who has worked at the Amazon  in Coalville has told me about how vile the management was. They're getting what they deserve.

Good.  I've long argued that capitalism encourages waste for waste's sake.  My bosses will often come down and tell me I'm not ordering enough products in if my wastage isn't 'high enough'.  Even if those products are never out of stock, just very efficiently rotated.  I ignore them of course but I would imagine many others will simply do what they ask and order more than they need just to keep those shelves looking stuffed.

I just don’t see how the two can’t be separated.Climate change solutions and capitalism go together like oil and water.

And I could see why one would think that tbh, it could well be accurate

But right now it's a question of optics as well as scientific fact, sadly, and we've got too many people buying into climate change ignorance and too little done because they're frightened of the "Reds under the Bed".

Honestly, whether the future of human civilisation actually happens or not really shouldn't be a political football anyway.

I tend to find the whole capitalism-is-bad / socialism-is-bad debates pretty stupid. It’s is a simple matter of fact that no successful modern regime has existed without incorporating elements of both socialism AND capitalism. These are not competing systems.

People talk as it if’s one model or another. Pure capitalism would be dreadful, and pure socialism has been tried many times and is demonstrably dreadful.

It’s as futile as people arguing you should live on just food or just water; obviously you need both.

And as per above, when it comes to matters involving the entire planet it becomes extra pointless unless in the context of applying a solution, because the Earth isn't going to sit around and give us time to argue the toss.

I'm sorry are you saying the handful of commenters who've remarked on the relationship between capitalism and climate change are arguing for full blown communism?  I don't see anything which should give you that impression.  I do agree with your sentiment though, I think it's pretty stupid we can't criticise capitalist behaviour without someone inferring that we're arguing for a communist regime and getting defensive.  Let's talk about the failings of our current system instead of worrying about the hypothetical failings of one we're never going to see.

I follow the reddit antiwork forum, where there was a lot of "screw black Friday" / "make Amazon pay" stuff.

I totally get it that generally, bosses are horrible, executive pay is obscene and kids nowadays can't live on their wages, and some of the stuff posted from the USA is awful - no rights, no healthcare, shit pay, etc.

However, I do wonder how much of the recent upsurge in anticapitalism stuff is being stirred up by bots in Macedonia or wherever.
