Brendan Rodgers

Recommended Posts

Rodgers is unfortunately perfect for United.

A manager who specialises in the midfield - look at how good our midfield options have become since he arrived, going to a team that have good players everywhere except the central midfield.

Also, he's very strong at managing players with big egos -  Pogba, Ronaldo, Maguire and co - and will have their respect due to his tactical knowledge of the game and achievements.

Let's just hope they're not interested because there is no chance he is turning that down job if they come sniffing.

I agree with the earlier post. While Rodgers would undoubtedly be a success at Utd, I’m not sure he fits their philosophy insomuch as he isn’t a ‘star’ name. Absolutely a great appointment for them, but they have shown over the past few seasons that they are not a club that makes sensible, rational, decisions about developing the team, their business model is based entirely off star names that bolster the brand and enable them to stay as one of the top 3 biggest clubs in the world in terms of column inches printed, and associated sponsorship contracts.

Brendan would sell a lot less shirts and noodle contracts than Zidane.

Agreed. IF they offered it he would snap their hands off at the neck. One of the top posts in world football. Big job though, massive in fact. What price Tieleman’s to Utd then?

...Pogba playing in a double pivot, what exactly were they thinking!!!

They have a first class midfield, large  egos and you include Maguire, and tactical knowledge attributed to Rodgers!

If anything the Man City role is rumoured to be earmarked for him and United will be looking to get the best manager around, Rodgers does not fit that remit.

Sounds like you'd be willing to drive him there yourself FFS

If Man Utd come in for Rodgers, he'll be gone unfortunately. I don't like it, but Man Utd are the biggest club in England, and if they want someone they do tend to get their man. I just hope they're arrogant enough to overlook Rodgers and go for Conte instead.

He can come back to try and sign whoever he wants, but he'll know that he won't have a chance of signing more than one a year from us.

Its a long time since Man Utd were the biggest club in England. For years they have been "mediocre" compared to the glory years. That actually pinpoints one of their problems/challenges - they suffer from delusion grandeur and live in the past.

Man utd job will be a dead end to nothing. Probably the club with the highest expectation and media pressure, but competing with 2 juggernauts in City and Chelsea and soon to be Newcastle. The ONLY success you can achieve at Man Utd is the Prem or the CL and its nearly impossible to do either when they are competing vs these.

The only way you have a chance is it your absolutely spot on with the recruitment and hold over seasons with perfection. The way Klopp and Liverpool have done.

Brendan isnt anywhere near as good as Klopp and will have a tough job with the squad there because the players are not as good in reality as perceived by everyone else.  Ole is a poor manager but I dont think any manager can do much better with the current level of the other top 3 and with Newcastle emerging over the next few years, Id be shocked if Utd win anything of note for years.

Not saying Brendan wouldnt see it as a step up, of course it is. The reality is though, I dont think it would be good for his career if he goes as the expectations will be unrealistic.

There was no pressure at Swansea and he had a nice style of football, he could only win and he did. He went to Liverpool when they were at their worst, there was no expectation and he did well. Soon as there was expectation the years after he failed. Then at celtic, he could only win. Impossible to not win leagues there etc.

He then comes to us, a brilliant set up and squad. He cant really lose as were little Leicester with a much better squad than people believe.

Man Utd and Arsenal are the 2 worst jobs to take for future jobs/reputation. You have to achieve HUGELY more than the likelihood you can due to resources based on the fact of the huge history of domination of the 90s and Wenger Ferguson etc and blindly ignoring the fact the oil money over powers historical success.

City and Chelsea are the easiest/less risky jobs as its very likely you'll succeed. Even the likes of Pelligrini, Di Matteo and Grant could do good jobs despite being useless managers because of what they inherit. As Van Gal, Moyes and Mourinho struggle despite being the very best in class because nothing under winning is accepted at Utd but the resources, owners and landscape of billionaires competing vs them means they will never be able to dominate again.

Brendan would take the job but he'd be silly long term to, he'd be best staying here and waiting for Man City/Chelsea.

Who knows what thoughts are circling inside Rogers head but we can certainly bank on him and his agent chatting about this. The fact he turned down Spurs, Newcastle etc I'm quietly confident he will pass on this. Yes yes Celtic fans will all be singing for him to jump ship because we enticed him to Leicester. All we can do is speculate. First of all I don't think the hammer will fall on Olly unless manu collapses against Spurs and then City. Right now its hovering dangerously above his head. Secondly Rogers will not speak publicly on this unless he or the club gets officially approached by manu. If that happens we wait and see what he says. I know he's very close to Top and the club have laid out some ambitious plans for the future of the club backed up with money not hearsay. He's on the verge of something big and special at Leicester and he knows it. Going to Manu is a risky move. Do they really want him or is he just the best of who's available which isn't very nice. Manu is a big pile of dog turd with gems sprinkled throughout it. He's gonna have to get his hands dirty to clean that hot mess up!

Man Utd don't look like contenders until next season at the very earliest. There is 1 or 2 good players there but overall they don't look anywhere near strong enough to winning the league right now regardless of who's in charge. The owners are still a huge issue for them and it will take a sea change to turn it around.

That said if Rodgers is offered it they would have a stronger argument to make than Arsenal or Spurs.

I disagree. Man Utd are still the biggest club in England in my opinion. In fact, they are one of the biggest three or four clubs in the world. I hate to say it because I detest Man Utd, but I think most people would say that they are.

Aside from Soumare our midfield is basically the same as it had been since Puel was here

There's more chance of him going to Barcelona, than Man United.

As others have mentioned, he speaks Spanish and they often go for managers of smaller clubs.

Koeman has got to be on borrowed time there.

True, but not going to lie as a Spanish speaker, he definitely has a decent amount to work on, his accent is very strong.
