His defensive side of the game is mediocre. He is clearly no kante. He rarely makes tackles, he isnt quick, he isnt strong, he isnt skillfull, he isnt clever. At best he is a body in the centre of the park. Going forward is even worse. I have never seen him pass forward. Its always sideways and backwards. Thats fine for the most part, we dont need our cdm to be spraying passes forward. This guy however could be given the ball on a great counter attack and still manage to pass it backwards killing the attack off. Whether Hamza can still build himself up to be a good rotation player, it is clear for me that Mendy isn't and never has been good enough for the prem. Not good enough technically for a team that plays tika taka football but for a team like Newcastle he could be really effective.
