The irony of someone who is not a reputable journalist but posts 'rumours' as inside knowledge and fact calling out for someone 'not being a reputable journalist' on the Internet is sensational.

Leicester City 'door open' for want away Barcelona star looking for move back to Premier League - Leicestershire Live

Philippe Coutinho is the subject of a renewed link with Leicester City, according to reports in Spain.

The Brazilian international was the subject of media speculation linking him with the Foxes, Arsenal and Tottenham last summer but ended up staying at the Nou Camp.

The 28-year-old playmaker played under Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, who sold him to Barcelona in a massive £142million deal in January 2018.

His move to Spain has not gone quite according to plan and Coutinho was loaned out to Bayern Munich last season.

What Soumare would bring to Leicester City and where he would fit in

Bayern opted not to make the loan permanent due to the reported asking price of around £104 million.

He was subsequently brought back into the fold at Barcelona under new boss Ronald Koeman but has not played this year due to injury.

It is now being reported that Barca could sell him in the summer transfer window for a cut-price fee of 20 million Euros.

And a move back to England appears to be a strong possibility for the player, with Spanish outlet Sport.es reporting:

“This is what Philipe Coutinho must be thinking, whose future is once again in England.

“The agent of the player owned by FC Barcelona, Kia Joorabchian, has been negotiating in recent weeks with all the Premier League teams with the potential to deal with a transfer, a loan or a loan with an option to buy.

“Any possibility was heard because FC Barcelona does not have him for next season after his loan to Bayern.”

The report claims the likes of Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea have ruled out making a move for him, adding: “Some clubs have refused to address the hiring of Coutinho, such as United, City and even Chelsea,” but says other clubs have “left the door open” for the player.

“This is the case of Tottenham and Leicester, the two teams that kept the door open for Coutinho.

“Both finally qualified for the Europa League and they already know what their reality is and if they can go for Coutinho .

“It will be from now on when the moment of truth begins. The moment when you must determine your future. He has three options on the table: Arsenal, Leicester and Tottenham.”

Coutinho’s agent Kai Joorabchian, meanwhile, said recently: “We are looking to see if any opportunity arises in the Premier, where he has already succeeded.”

Sport.es says it would cost around 20 million euros for the transfer for one season, while the player’s salary is reported to be around 10 million euros (£8.5m).

In any of the options he has on the table, the report concludes, “Coutinho is faced with a salary cut, a negotiation that is not easy to foresee.”

Rodgers was asked about Coutinho last summer, when the asking price was seemingly much higher.

“I’ve seen lots of speculation around young Phil,” said the Leicester boss.

“Philippe’s a wonderful player, a brilliant talent, but he would be someone who is way out of our price bracket.”

Whether the latest developments have changed Rodgers’ and the club’s thinking remains to be seen.

Didn’t know Spurs had qualified for the Europa League…

Poor journalism or an old quote from last pre-season? Probably both.

It’s been quoted elsewhere today as well. Seem to touted him around again. They need to ship his wage off basically, so generating interest I’d imagine.

Under-appreciated flair player, a number 10, capable of great things and on huge wages?

Got Arsenal written all over it…

At €20m I would say Coutinho is worth a punt. Brendan loved him at Liverpool and would likely get the best out of him. He’s only 28 and is exactly the type of player that we need if we’re genuinely looking to become a top 4 side regularly.

the problem is they want 20m for a one year loan deal.

The reports are saying a 20m transfer fee, not a loan fee.
