It's a mystery.  Still can't work out what the lad did wrong.  I feel sure Barnes would be more effective with Thomas working with him, too.

He's done nothing wrong at all. Rodgers wanted Bertrand's experience in our faltering backline but has been poor since the Man City game.

Garth Crooks somehow outdoing himself as the biggest worthless pundit in football media, for a "U wot m8?" moment in his team of the week.

Salah: I'm almost irritated by my own selection. By Salah's standards, this was a poor performance from the Egyptian superstar.

He probably scored the easiest chance of the match. However it's very difficult to ignore a player who has scored 100 Premier League goals faster than any other Liverpool player in their history. It's a magnificent achievement even if the performance against Brentford wasn't one of his best.

:nigel:

This is classic Crooks - at least he can admit now he puts players in who are shite!

I’m sure he picks up a copy of the Sunday Newspaper and writes down the names of all the goal scorers add in a big 4 goalkeeper who has a clean sheet mix them all up and there you have it team of the week.

Thomas Frank is a weird case for us Danes. He was a rather succesful national youth coach for different age groups until Brøndby (a sleeping giant in danish football) picked him up. He couldn't help Brøndby out of their mess (nobody could until they stroke gold last season with a lot of young players hitting unreal form) and went on to become assistent at Brentford. Then got the job, when Villa nicked Smith and started absolutely horrible with 1 win out of 10, but then things turned for him. It very strange to see him become a premier league manager and a very succesful one at the moment.

He always comes across as a real nice bloke in interviews and has also been enjoyable as a pundit covering the last world cup.

It would be funny if he wasn't being paid for it. How he continues this way is borderline theft.

Yes, Bertrand never seems to understand where Barnes is. Harvey only seemed to get passed to by the midfield.

Getting Evans back cannot happen too soon.

Never got why Palace v Brighton is considered a grudge/match. Did they both want one for credibility sake or summat, so the chairmen phoned each other and the deal was done - like some kind of perverse town twinning.

Prior to that it was,

We are Brighton...

.... and nobody gives a shit.

Goes back to the 70s apparently when Terry Venables and Allan Mullery were managers of the respective clubs and they were fighting for promotion.

What’s happened to Luke Thomas?

Played against Millwall.

Desperately unlucky not to be in the first team at the minute. Think he should be starting ahead of Bertrand over the next few games.

Though, Bertrand has a pedigree about him that he just isn't showing at the minute.

I think we need to be patient with Bertrand as well. Covid obviously struck at the worst possible time and he’s struggling to catch back up.

it annoys me how fans would give soumare or daka free passes to settle but the players we know more about are written off instantly.

it’s still a new club, style and pressure and they still have to adapt.

How dare you bring common sense to FT !!!

Now, go stand with your nose in the corner.

So what incentives will the Premier league give out for getting players to have the vaccine?

A few extra points would be very useful thanks!

Although given 4 of our players (or they were at the time with us) have been found breaking Government guidelines around the lock down wouldn't be surprised if we're one of the clubs whose players are refusing!

Tottenham Hotspur has become the first team in world football to be top of the league and then overtaken by the team at the bottom of the league within three games.

Never take the piss out of Spurs less they kick our arses when we play them. I expect them to finish above us this season even if they, as usual, win nothing

The Premier League's most overrated XI features Liverpool, Man Utd & Chelsea stars
 By Danny Ryan

Published: 02 Oct 2021, 10:30

As every football fan knows, the sport is all about differing opinions.

That's what makes following the game so enjoyable, because it would be incredibly boring if every single person felt the exact same way about a player or team.

So with that in mind, we've decided to make some of our bravest opinions public knowledge by naming the most overrated XI operating in the Premier League.

Now, that doesn't mean we believe the players named below are rubbish. To be labelled 'overrated' you have to be rated in the first place.

We're just simply saying that these Premier League footballers are not as brilliant as some will have you think.

Apologies for any offence caused...

GK - Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)

For a long, long time, Lloris was a world-class goalkeeper for both Spurs and France. However, those days are firmly behind him and the former Lyon man now looks prone to an error pretty much every game he plays. Lloris is still a decent shot-stopper at times, but that's about it to be honest.

RB - Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United)

The man nicknamed 'The Spider' is fantastic when it comes to making slide tackles. However, he's only forced into performing them due to his lack of positional awareness and suspect first touch. Wan-Bissaka is also fairly average in the final third, which just isn't good enough for the modern day full-back.

CB - James Tarkowski (Burnley)

To this day, we still cannot believe that Burnley had the cheek to ask Leicester for £50m to sign Tarkowski. Yes, he's a no-nonsense defender who can be a threat from set-pieces, but that doesn't mean he's befitting of such an enormous fee.

CB - Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa)

How Mings is still in the England frame when his partner at Villa, Ezri Konsa, outperforms him on a weekly basis is absolutely baffling. Mings simply makes far too many mistakes to be considered anywhere close to an elite-level Premier League player.

Mings with Villa

LB - Lucas Digne (Everton)

Don't be fooled into thinking Digne is world-class just because he's a good crosser of the ball and chips in with the odd assist. The Frenchman is a decent footballer, yes, but the comparisons with Liverpool's Andy Robertson are ludicrous in the extreme.

CM - Youri Tielemans (Leicester)

Perhaps the most controversial call in the XI. Tielemans is a very, very good footballer, we're not disputing that whatsoever. However, some would have you believe that he's a hybrid of Patrick Vieira and fellow countryman Kevin De Bruyne, which certainly isn't the case.

CM - James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)

JWP is a ridiculously good free-kick taker and a footballer who rarely misses a minute of action. Those are commendable traits, but is he really a world beater as an overall midfield package? In our opinion, no.

CAM - Kai Havertz (Chelsea)

This will probably come back to haunt us. Havertz has shown glimpses of his quality at Chelsea and even grabbed the winner in last season's Champions League final. Nevertheless, the German still needs to do far more to live up to his reputation as a 'generational talent'.

RW - Adama Traore (Wolves)

Traore's pace, strength and dribbling ability make him a hugely entertaining player to watch, of that there can be no doubt. He's contributed to just four goals in his last 43 Premier League games, though, a woeful record for such an attack-minded player.

ST - Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)

We've all heard a Liverpool fan rattle on about how vital Firmino is to Jurgen Klopp's 'system'. But sorry, no player can be considered a great striker when they've scored more than 12 goals in a Premier League season just once in six attempts.

LW - Anthony Martial (Manchester United)

The French forward possesses world-class ability, however, we rarely ever see it on the pitch in a United shirt. Martial scored only four goals in the Premier League last season and is yet to get off the mark in 2021/22. It's time to accept that he's never going to be a top, top player in England.
