Need to wait for a stoppage in play before the ref can look at it.

Fair enough.

Guess it was just awkward timing!

Not strictly true - once the var tells the ref he needs to look at it he can stop play.  Especially as the half was over.

Gary Neville also showing ignorance ….  ‘it’s just about a pen’.

then it shouldn’t be an overturn !

I’m a bit confused about the rebound there. It looked like Pawson signalled for halftime - the break in play, then went over to the monitor, checked and awarded the penalty.
So surely as soon as the penalty is taken, it should be half time. Keeper saved it, there should have been no playing time for the rebounds fo be knocked in.

There's injury to insult time to be added.

*Insult to injury.

Surely once the penalty is taken and saved the ref should blow for half time:cool:

I suppose it depends on how much time there is between the penalty incident and the penalty itself, as any play in that gap is nullified.

So, when we play Brighton, Vestergard gets armlocked but the VAR can't be ****ed to look at it for more than 5 seconds and let the decision stand. Arsenal have a marginal penalty shout, spend minutes looking at the ****er and restart the first half so they can take it. Clear and obvious error is a stupid "rule", as it's clearly not a rule at all, just completely arbitrary. And that means the big clubs get more decisions, because no VAR official wants to miss a decision that should favour a big 6 team if Spit the Dog, Gary Neville and friends are going to spend 20 minutes slobbering all over slow motion replays to see if they can possibly justify those poor, poor super league clubs not getting everything awarded to them, because, bless the poor ****ers, they barely have enough of an advantage at present with their billion pound squads.

Please stop the conspiracy theories. Its the inconsistencies, that are just mind boggling. If there really was a pro big 6 agenda, they would have made lines making Söycüncü's goal against Man Utd offside.

The Brighton game was pure incompetence. I really think the pen decision was a proper mistake and the refs involved regret that outcome. The 2 offsides against Barnes seem to have clarified the rules for the refs to only ref that when its clear as day, as multiple similar situations has not been called. It was the flag happy linesman, that was the big factor in those decisions. Not sure who he was or if he still gets games.

But its unreal, the refs can't find a line and stick with it. Still feels like a lottery. They should mic them up and interview them afterwards, so its clear why they made the decisions in the game.

Theoretically play could carry on for several minutes or even longer, which is farcical really.

That happened in the Burnley v Bournemouth  2 years ago game didn't it..

Went on for a while and the latter scored but then they went back and gave a penalty?

Or they could have been in the dressing room!

My point isn't there's some big consipracy, but that they'll spend longer checking things when they are live on Sky, as opposed to game like Brighton, which is untelevised. So the criteria isn't "clear and obvious error", but rather "will we look bad on TV at half time?"

You did made it sound like, they always favoured the big 6.

Its just more inconsistencies and frustration, that sometimes they take a long time with the VAR checks and other times they don't. But if there really is a pattern with longer VAR checks when on live TV, that is not acceptable.

Well, they will be inclined to, because Sky Sports favour the big 6, so they'll subconciously know that Sky will make more of a fuss if it's a Big 6 team playing. It's not a conspiracy, but a sports broadcaster who pays too much attention to Big 6 teams, because they like to target all the glory hunting Big 6 fans who've not been to their teams ground once, and their influence putting pressure on match officials to "not miss" a big decision that will upset all the Arsenal twitter babies. I'm not saying refs are intentionally doing it, but the whole media is pressuring them in that direction, so it's only natural the big 6 get more decision go their way.

Whereas, balls up calls in a Leicester game, no one will be talking about it in the media the next day, so there's not the same pressure to look at things as thoroughly.
