Decisions are made to maximize brand value -- to appeal to a superficial global fanbase who think you can “win” the transfer market like a trophy. How’s a manager like Conte going to react when told to keep the armband on the ₤80M fridge? The antimatter to a proper captain. Can he work with a board who will continue to blow fortunes on players who sell shirts in Asia, but ruin his team’s shape? Will he start Maguire, Pogba and Ronaldo in every game despite often terrible effort and production? They’re going nowhere without an ugly, public teardown. But that would be hard on the “brand”. The Gunners have been ridiculed and laughed at on here but have found some decent form of late. We have had a good week and should be pretty confident.
