Premier League 2021/22 Thread

I think even if Rodgers has a torrid season with us he will still be top of most peoples lists. Simply because he’s managing little old Leicester.

That’s part of the reason our job is so great for someone. Top squad, top infrastructure, top top lol... and if they ever fail (mid-lower table), they still leave with their reputation intact as most think that’s where we belong.

Michael Edwards at Liverpool about to get £100m+ for selling all of Liverpool's chaff U21 players...

I think we will find out very quickly whether this going to work for them or not. Their next three home games are Brentford, Norwich and Burnley. Absolutely huge games for them.

I can’t help but think the plan for Howe is to steady the ship, replace some players with hungry determined players and prepare the way for a Conte type manager to take them to the next level.

Howe’s reputation isn’t worldwide- he’s got a great reputation in England but that’s about it.

Conte is the sort of manager you appoint if you are seeking world class players. Howe is the sort of manager you appoint if you want some talented prem based players with potential but with the ‘ English ‘ premium you’ll pay I don’t see this as anything other than steadying the ship.

Hope I’m wrong! I really like Howe!

Well at least he has a headstart by knowing some of the players already....

As somebody who genuinely didn't think NUFC would pick Howe given their ambition fair play. I hope he does well.

There's a lot of infrastructure stuff they need to get in place over the next few years. Their training ground is notoriously awful which is as important as anything to fix if they want to attract top class players. So if Howe can steady the ship, bring in some good solid players in the next couple of transfer windows then he'll be okay for a couple of seasons.

Wants to wait until the end of the season is the not at all dodgy rumour I read.

That'll be just great if he spends the rest of the season weakening us, then goes off to a rival and depletes us further by taking a couple of our best players with him. :sweating:

Obviously never going to happen but I'd love it (and the hilarious inevitable reaction on RedCafe) if they paid huge comp for Rodgers at the end of the season and we went straight out and replaced him with Ten Hag.

Again, I know this is pure fantasy. But it would be hilarious.

That would be even better the selling Maguire for 80m too them

Didn’t Howe get homesick being too far up north when he was with Burnley? Now he’s wound up even further up north lol

The thing is, he was in no position to turn them down really. His stock was relatively high a few years ago but the perception of him has changed following Bournemouth's relegation. Villa might have taken a chance on him, but probably would have opted for someone else. It's a premier league he keeps them up and makes a good impression this season then it could be a big opportunity for him.

Klopp is really rude to people. I get being annoyed with losing and that "show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser" stuff but he gets quite personal with interviewers and it isn't on.

Reporters ask questions, they aren't there to give opinions. Unfortunately the fanbase will lap it up and pile in on the bloke asking the question, not the instigator.

I often find it funnier listening to Guardiola after Man City have lost, especially if they other team won having had less possession and made it deliberately difficult for them. He loves praising teams who open up against them and get hammered but he because such a soar loser when a team beats them because the opposition didn't do what he wanted them to do.

Yeah I find repeatedly let down by Klopp, he's a really odd sort.

I don't have a problem with his passion and energy in the heat of the moment but its those times a little later on when he should have calmed down enough and he persists with the hypocrisy or the persecution complex that I find him really frustrating.

Then you've got the fact his man of the people, socialist world views somehow get lost when he's talking about football. He's all about the average Joe in the street yet he rails against Christmas fixtures that quite clearly mean a lot to the fans. Or he's a champion of the little guy in the world but apparently it's unconscionable for his big club to not be able to make five subs and he can't understand why that's obviously a problem for the less wealthy teams.

There's just so much in him that's contradictory and it annoys me because there's also a lot about him I like.

At times he crosses the line from annoyance to being belittling and disrespectful. I don't want robots nor happy go lucky people where nothing affects them but he does tend to talk down to reporters when pissed off. Look at the BT interview last year about the TV matches- went on a rant whilst the reporter says "It's not my call". He seems to direct it at the wrong people.

As you say, he's one of the more interesting managers in terms of world and outside football views. Yesterday seemed odd- they were the usual questions, really. Nothing clickbait about it.

He was drawn to Liverpool because of their potential and the magnitude of the club. Their history and tradition being integral parts of that - he’s since demeaned almost every traditional aspect of football here.

Who’s going to beat them out, though?  Yanited and Spurs look a shambles, though Conte will likely have an impact.   Arsenal?

I think the top 4 will be the same as it has been over the last 2 years, so United will recover and claim it. They have been awful recently but I expect they will put enough wins together to take it. If they don't then Arsenal/Spurs/West Ham may push, but to be honest I think the top 4 will end up being fairly comfortable: later in the season those big squads will pay dividends and we've seen ourselves rather painfully how capable those teams are of putting together a string of results when it matters.
