It's insensitive but people don't realise just how much nowadays unless they're well educated on the subject. It's part of the National Curriculum and would have been when he was in the education system. How well educated do you have to be? He'd know enough about what happened (as should basically any 14+ year old in the UK) that it should only take a little bit of empathy or a smidgen of commen sense to avoid comparing the murder of millions of innocent people to a one-sided football match.
