I'm not really bothered about what Chelski can and can't do. Abramovich has links to Putin and it's high time Russia realises that invading sovereign countries has ramifications.

To my mind they (Russia) deserve all they are getting.

The putin regime and his puppets are getting what they deserve. Can't blame the whole country though. But it's too little too late imo. Remember the Tories have been profiting off of these lot for years, receiving Russian oligarchs money as donations. This could have been prevented or made more difficult through peaceful ways before hand... Always one step behind these lot are and not by accident is it

Don't like saying it but it seems very unfair on chelsea fans. Surely the government can let chelsea operate as normal but just prevent abramovic from accessing any finances.

"Don't like saying it", well don't then!!

And, no doubt, the Trade Unions have benefitted from Russia money over the years particularly in the communist era.

Mike Ashley will probably buy it and they can return to their historically rightful position of being a yo-yo club.

All trophies won during the RA era should have an asterix to record they were won with dirty Russian money.

the club owes RA £1.5 bill . there is nothing to suggest that the government sanctions  will expropriate the club without compensation any more than they will seize these oligarchs' private homes  . All these billionaires will have been war gaming these sanctions for years using very expensive legal firms. Expect a blizzard of injunctions, judicial reviews and legal challenges which will tie the government up for years.

As for Ashley he could probably just about afford the burger van concession   alongside the money at the disposal of the possible purchasers  of the club.

Show me your receipts. (and names as well, please. Not just those of the pro soviet stalinist and leninist parties please) and to be clear I'm not defending either state capitalist sovietism based in the nomenclature or oligarchial capitalism lol. Both are bad

Hard to feel sorry for a brain dead bunch who in the middle of a moment for Ukraine decided to chant his name.

Absolutely, and it wasn't just a dozen or so either. I have a mate who's a Burnley ST and he reckons basically the entire end were belting it out.

Vile set of fans.

In some ways this will help Chelsea within reason, just like the transfer ban helped the likes of Mount, CHO, James, Tomori etc come through.

Chelsea have an outrageous depth of talent in their academy. We've no chance of getting Colwill now, he'll replace Rudiger and he's going to be a monster of a player and Gallagher and Broja will also be excellent for them. They can afford to lose some of the superstars and it won't make much difference to them.

Presumably you can do the same? Russian money, whether it's come from oligarchs or trade unionists which has been allowed on both sides of the political divide is not welcome and definitely not since the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

Great news for Leicester top 4 ambitions next season. Unfortunately Newcastle will be challenging too. That is if we have a fit squad and make some good signings.

You may be going ‘too early’

What if there is a new owner in three weeks who has even deeper pockets than Roman ???

I can’t see an owner financing Chelsea liked they are used to.

Sanctions would prevent a sale of the club no? If they can’t sell merchandise or tickets for a few quid I can’t see a billion dollar sale getting the nod

Theoretically correct but  the govt would be v happy to see it sold and they can now ensure that no monies go to RA …

they don’t want to be responsible for administering an operating license for Chelsea - it’s a no win for them and the longer it goes on the worse it gets for them

you may be right but my experience is that most people who buy distressed assets like to flip them fairly quickly for a return. And I suspect that if it’s actually sold to a v wealthy consortium/person, then they will have the wherewithal to finance as much as they need ….

Pretty sure that roman has invested less over the past ten years than the previous ten ……..

For any who didn't wish to look at the whole document, here are the bits concerning Abramovich and Usmanov.

IMO should be required reading for Chelsea and Everton supporters

ABRAMOVICH 1: ROMAN 2: ARKADYEVICH DOB: 24/10/1966. POB: Saratov, Russia a.k.a: ABRAMOVICH, Roman Nationality: (1) Russia (2) Israel (3) Portugal Passport Number: (1) CB982788 (2) 24132276 Passport Details: (1) Portugal (2) Israel Position: (1) Businessman – Owner of Chelsea Football Club (2) Stakeholder in Evraz PLC and Norilsk Nickel

(UK Sanctions List Ref):RUS0270 (UK Statement of Reasons):Roman Arkadyevich ABRAMOVICH (hereafter ABRAMOVICH) is a prominent Russian businessman and pro-Kremlin oligarch. ABRAMOVICH is associated with a person who is or has been involved in destabilising Ukraine and undermining and threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, namely Vladimir Putin, with whom ABRAMOVICH has had a close relationship for decades. This association has included obtaining a financial benefit or other material benefit from Putin and the Government of Russia. This includes tax breaks received by companies linked to ABRAMOVICH, buying and selling shares from and to the state at favourable rates, and the contracts received in the run up to the FIFA 2018 World Cup. Therefore, ABRAMOVICH has received preferential treatment and concessions from Putin and the Government of Russia. ABRAMOVICH is also associated with a person who is or has been involved in obtaining a benefit from or supporting the Government of Russia, namely: former First Deputy Prime Minister, and current Chairman of the Management Board for VEB, Igor Shuvalov; former General Director of Gazprom Investment Holdings, Alisher Usmanov, both of whom were sanctioned on 3 March 2022 for being involved persons in obtaining a benefit from or supporting the Russian government through carrying on business in a sector of strategic significance to the Russian government. ABRAMOVICH is associated with these individuals through close business relationships and mutual assistance, including ABRAMOVICH financing Shuvalov's trust and the subsequent loans from Shuvalov to enable Usmanov's purchase of a British mill. Furthermore, ABRAMOVICH is or has been involved in destabilising Ukraine and undermining and threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, via Evraz PLC, a steel manufacturing and mining company in which ABRAMOVICH has a significant shareholding and over which ABRAMOVICH exercises effective control. Evraz PLC is or has been involved in providing financial services, or making available funds, economic resources, goods or technology that could contribute to destabilising Ukraine or undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty or independence of Ukraine – which includes potentially supplying steel to the Russian military which may have been used in the production of tanks. ABRAMOVICH exercises effective control of Evraz PLC given his significant shareholding and the shareholdings of his close associates who it is reasonable to expect ABRAMOVICH could direct through his close ties with Abramov and Shvidler, as well as his power to nominate directors of the board. ABRAMOVICH is or has been involved in obtaining a benefit from or supporting the Government of Russia, as ABRAMOVICH and Evraz PLC carry on business in sectors of strategic significance to the Government of Russia – namely the construction, defence and extractive sectors. (Gender):Male List

USMANOV 1: ALISHER 2: BURKHANOVICH DOB: 09/09/1953. POB: Chust , Uzbekistan a.k.a: USMANOV, Alisher Nationality: Russia Position: Founder of USM Holdings Other Information: (UK Sanctions List Ref):RUS0266

(UK Statement of Reasons):Alisher USMANOV is a prominent Russian businessman and pro-Kremlin oligarch. USMANOV is closely associated with high-profile individuals within the Government of Russia, both financially through his considerable business links and through relationships with significant individuals including President Vladimir Putin. Therefore, USMANOV is associated with individuals within the Government of Russia who are involved in destabilising and threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Furthermore, USMANOV – via his holding company USM HOLDINGS – carries on business in sectors of strategic significance to the Government of Russia. (Gender):Male Listed on: 03/03/202
