OH Leuven Thread 2021/22

Recommended Posts

Full Time - Standard Liege 2-2 OH Leuven

1-0 - Tapsoba 39'

2-0 - Dragus 51'

2-1 - Mercier 90+6'

2-2 - Kaba - 90+10'

Did well to rescue that to 2-2, defensively a shambles for both goals and Romo really poor for both as well, but a very important point to keep those above within reach

2nd goal was an absolute joke, long kick from the keeper, player flicks it on and the striker is through, kind of rolls it past Romo who just seemed to weirdly put a hand out but not stop it? Brys could do with doing what Rodgers has done "take a step back and look at it as if a new manager"

....Standard must be kicking themselves, bossed this game completely, so far superior and failed to go for the jugular time and time again!!!

Only themseleve to blame but you could see some of the Leuven players were quite geed up when the pulled the first goal back. Pure madness in the end to get the equalizer I i expected a VAR check was going to come in and ruin it. Unreal comeback.

Although a very Continental thing but these flares are in effect missiles and can do damage, why are supporters allowed to bring them in I have no idea.

....Romo has to be embarrassed about their second goal!!!

This is not the first time he has allowed such a soft goal. His attempt to gather the ball like a cricketer on one knee and expecting the ball to come into his gloves backfires as the ball deviates slightly and instead of hitting his trailing back leg, goes pass it and ends up in the goal.

He may be a good shot stopper and has great reflexes but, executing the mundane, is not what he does well.

They're not allowed. :) But it happens anyway, you know how it goes. Flares aren't really an issue, but things like that firecracker (which is what it actually was) are just plain dangerous.

Romo going to see an ENT doctor today to see as to whether he has suffered any permanent hearing loss from the firecracker that went off next to him

Couldn’t hear anything out of his right ear after the game, hearing was still not fully back by yesterday afternoon

OHL waiting for the referees report and then will see about filing a complaint against Standard / the supporter(s) who threw it

I think they're waiting for the report to see if he actually blew for the end of the second half, or if he stopped the game because of the firecracker. If it's the latter, it's very much possible that this will end up being a 0-5 game without an intervention from the club (especially since Standard has quite a track record for this kind of stuff).

Same here!

His tactics are just wrong the last couple of weeks!

On the other hand, it's clear that he's still backed by the players and the fightbacks we've done this season against Antwerp and Standard have been impressive. It's a very, very tough call.

Honestly, a lot will depend on what he does in the game against STVV. Sory deserves a start, and Maertens needs to be brought back to midfield. And finally, Tamari needs to be benched.

It was quite a strange decision to start without an actual striker when you had Kaba on the bench, is Rezaei injured?

Romo and the defence definitely need looking at, really poor for both goals and still no clue what Romo was doing for the 2nd

....his back leg was not square enough!!!

His studs were pointing to the back post as opposed to pointing to the far touchline.

I wouldn’t say it was even anything to do with the position of his feet though, it was whatever he was doing with his hand, he somehow lets this roll past…

You're both correct!

Kaba needs to start in the next couple of games so he can really prove his worth, especially now Rezaei is injured. Starting with Schrijvers at striker was a big mistake. Maybe we need a change in formation as well. I would play a 4-3-3 with Keita, Maertens and Mercier in the midfield. Tamari hasn't played that well lately, but he has to play as a wingback, which clearly isn't his best position. We need to start using him RW. Aguemon did surprisingly well, so I would put him on as a LW. I think Romo is a good goalie, but he has made a couple of crucial mistakes this season. Maybe we should give Runarsson a chance?

I still think Brys is a good manager, but he needs to start winning games! We desperately need 3 points this weekend!

We had Vlietinck doing a decent job at the WB last season... he's staying on the bench instead of Tamari at the moment. I don't understand Brys at all when it comes to that. Tamari is a winger, and has too little body mass to come up against attackers and his stamina is not on par to be able to play as a WB. So the tactic we're playing will never get the best out of him.

I still don't see why Schrijvers keeps on getting chances either. He is just not playing at the right level, and falls short. What Brys was thinking with putting on a false nine instead of a proper striker... god knows. Brys keeps on saying in the media that we will always play our game... well do so than. Romo had an awful game... he is known to make these kind of mistakes, but overall he earned himself a lot of credit over the last season and part of this one as well. He has won us a lot of points already. No clue if that Runarsson will do better in goal.

Brys will need to change his tactics, or get the proper players for the current tactic. We could do with more speed and creativity if we stick to the 5-3-3 and a goalscoring striker. Where is that Sadzoute by the way?

Confirmed that Romo has no permanent hearing damage from the firecracker and has returned back to training. Glad to hear he's doing well.

He unfortunately still has a slight 'beeping sound' in his right ear though, hoping for him that that will go as well.

Must win game surely

...Good to see Keita back in the team!!!

I get the feeling in is going to go places, he is very calm on the ball, just his age which stops him from dictating the team.

Certainly needs composure in the middle of the park and the ability to control games, we cannot continue to have "shoot outs" forever.

Good to see Kaba starting and not a weird false 9 again

Surprised Romo kept his place after his poor display last game and everything with the fire cracker, would have been a good opportunity to change it up a bit
