Yes I am aware of that, although it never stopped him from signing numerous contract extensions. My suggestion was just based on his desire for publicity and his resemblance to Ryan Reynolds that he likes to mention.

Christian Fuchs appears to have found a surprise new scale of popularity since joining the MLS after figures released show the veteran defender has the second highest amount of jersey sales.

Fuchs joined Charlotte from Leicester City last summer and following a year in the United States appears to have build a huge popularity judging by the amount of supporters buying replica shirts with his name on.

According to MLSSoccer, the 36-year-old has the second highest shirt sales in the division, with only Gareth Bale's summer arrival at LAFC eclipsing his total for 2022.

The rankings are based on the overall retail sales of adidas MLS shirts from the league's online store from the start of the 2022 season, which commenced from the end of February, to September 1. 


Fuchs spent last season on loan at Charlotte Independence after his mid-season arrival but has settled well into the MLS this term.


He has featured mainly as a left-back while also playing as a centre-back for Charlotte and making 25 appearances while also contributing three goals.

The former Austria international is also captain of the team and clearly has proven a real hit with supporters. 

It's not the first time Fuchs has found himself a surprise inclusion near the summit, having played a key role in Leicester's famous shock Premier League title triumph during the 2015-16 season.

Fuchs departed the King Power Stadium in the summer of 2021 shortly after helping the Foxes clinch another surprise trophy by helping the club win their first ever FA Cup triumph after defeating Chelsea in the final at Wembley.

Christian Fuchs Announces Retirement From Professional Soccer After 19 Seasons

 

Charlotte FC captain Christian Fuchs today announced his retirement from professional soccer.

 

Fuchs’ decorated career spans over 19 seasons and features seven professional teams across four different countries. Prior to serving as captain for Charlotte FC during the Club’s inaugural season, he won the 2015/16 Premier League with Leicester City against 5,000-1 odds and captained Austria to UEFA Euro 2016.

 

“It has been an incredible journey for me and my family. Not only did we celebrate great success throughout the years, but we have also been able to learn from amazing people during this journey,” said Fuchs. “I am so thankful for all the support I received during my career from club representatives, my teammates, and the fans. I am looking back with a big smile on the special moments I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

 

After his time at Schalke, current CLTFC Special Advisor Steve Walsh helped bring Fuchs to England to join Leicester City, the club he would spend the longest period of his career with over six seasons. In the 2015/16 season, Fuchs’ first with the club, Leicester overcame 5,000-1 odds to win the Premier League title, sealing one of the all-time great underdog stories in world football. Upon Fuchs’ insertion into the starting lineup early that season, Leicester City kept 15 clean sheets, tied for top of the league.

 

In total, the Austrian left back made 152 appearances with three goals and 13 assists for Leicester while also winning the third major trophy of his career, the 2021 FA Cup.

 

Fuchs will remain in Charlotte with an expanded role at the Club, which will be announced soon.

Sorely missed and two of the best assists in that winning season, the corner for the Huth goal against Spurs and that sublime pass to Vardy for his record breaking goal.

Oh how we could really use a prime Fuchs right about now! Sad to see the great man hang up his boots. One of my fav all time Lester players. Wishing you well Christian.

Be interesting to see what he does with Charlotte.

 

Got a great business head on him, with his soccer academies already very popular.

 

Perhaps they're launching, and will give him, a role with their MLS Next Pro side.

Saw the great man in the flesh on Allandale Road circa 2016 taking his then very young child on a bit of a walk. I assume he was having dinner at Timo there as it is/was co-owned by Martin Castrogiovanni, formerly of Tigers.

 

Just as I was doing my double-take, two lads ran over shouting "Fuchs, Fuchs" and got a selfie with him. I thought I'd better leave him be seeing as he was with his young kid so I just got into my car and drove off.

 

I'm just happy I got to breathe the same air as the man.
