Mason Mount would be a very strong candidate for the most absurdly over hyped player by the English press.

Honestly can't think of another player with such a wild disconnect between their talent and their hype. Maybe Grealish but that's died down a bit since he's gone to City and the penny has dropped that he stood out at Villa because they were awful.

Glad it's not just me. Don't get what the fuss is about with Mount. I wouldn't swap Maddison or KDH for him.

Imagine the grief Southgate would get for not picking him with this seasons stats. I'm not a huge fan of either really but Southgate will get pelters either way regarding him

Like to think an England boss likes a bit deeper with stats. And the stats suggests Mount does well against the bottom half

It took Kante to move to Chelsea before the media realised just what a fantastic player he was.  Towards the end of our title season, there were a few media sorts starting to give him a mention, but still not realising how special he was.  I'm not saying KDH is Kante level, but again, I don't think the media have noticed him yet, or at least not taking him seriously so far.  I watched the motd2 analysis of him from Shearer, and it was quite half arsed really, unlike the fawning the likes of Mason Mount often gets.  Then on Sky this morning he was being likened to Lee Cattermole!  Seriously, the penny hasn't dropped yet within the media, what a talent KDH is.

I remember a few pundits raving about Kante when he was here.

One thing that really impresses me is his athletism. His mother was interviewed on RL earlier and said he was a County Cross Country champ and also ran 800 m.

In that respect, he reminds me of Colin Bell. If he turns out to be half as good he'll end up being a regular for England.

I think similar of Rice who is a good player but nothing exceptional. If he was Swedish I'm not convinced anyone would take any notice. I feel the same way about Mount as well after all. I can't really see it.

Foden on the other hand is special. He's worth all the hype.

Fully agree about maddison being pots. Rodgers loves players like that and it's got to be down to his coaching - before he came in no one gave kdh a chance at the first team. He's made a massive difference.

I agree. But believe it’ll be a KDH clean sweep. A lot of fans will vote for him because he’s “one of our own”. But Maddison is getting my vote.

It’s such a shame that Southgate is who he is. There are reasonable arguments for both to be in future England squads should they carry on playing the way they do.

I would too but whether he actually does or not😂 Also internationally they play some pretty poor sides a lot of the time lets be honest.

He’s always said it’s about club form. Well over the season only two English players have more goal involvements this season than Maddison and they’re strikers. For him to continually ignore him on this premise that club form is a massive part of making the grade is absolutely absurd.

Madison hasn’t helped himself he embarrassed the England manager and he has shown to be “trust” based guy Southgate, he deserves a second chance but won’t be for this tournament

That was partly my frustration with all the hype at the start of the season. Didn't feel that objective but boy did I get that wrong.

Maddison has been immense this season and he's pressing so much better. He looks so much fitter and he's back to his best as a result.

Agreed. It does sound marginally better when sung at a more bouncy tempo but I’ve always thought that it was a bit wet for a football chant, especially now, as it’s so slow and groany which isn’t a great fit for a player who is so dynamic. Would be great to have another more energetic chant for him.

Something like this?

Kiernan, Kiernan Dewsbury,

He's the magic Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall,

From the

Town of Shepshed,

He's the greatest player of them all!

(To the tune of the Flintstones theme)

:ph34r:lol

I'm so sorry.

I get it. Thursday he gave the ball away a lot but people brushed over it for this exact reason. His rise to the first team has been immense and he’s getting better with each game, but shouldn’t be devoid of any criticism.

He didn’t embarrass him. Southgate said he was told to drop out because of illness so it didn’t spread to other players. But Maddison himself said he didn’t feel that bad and wanted to play and this was pre-covid days where I guess people didn’t care about public infection spread so much.

Southgate actually publicly defended him saying he had no problem with him going to a casino and Maddison didn’t do much wrong, maybe in covid times we’d treat that more harshly. But going out when you’d got over a cold was still fine back then.

Precisely. It's not like he broke the law or did anything morally corrupt....Grealish, Walker et al....

He's what I hoped Andy King would be in the PL. High intensity, high work rate, and decent passer. King had goals in him. If KDH can add that to his game he will be a monster.

All this talk about Maddison , there is a lot of competition in the England midfield , that is why he isn't there. Why aren't people more concerned that Wesley Fofana is yet to win any international recognition?

I agree, but I guess France has crazy squad depth in that position and on the up side I guess it keeps Wes' profile a bit lower.

He has been unlucky with the bar or a good save this season, or he'd have a few more. Hopefully the quality of Sunday's goal will give him some confidence.

My chief criticism of KDH is that he tends to take an extra touch when he should pass/shoot...but if he can start scoring goals, I'll forgive him!
