I did that way back in about 1980. Turned out to be a pyramid selling organisation based in America. I ended up owing them my commission and having to sell my car.

Excellent, I've been trying to sell my jag for ages. XJ8, 62,000 miles on the clock. T Reg. Lovely interior and exterior (I used to show it). Drives superbly (in first gear).

Actually I don't do insurance; I own and run (franchise operation) a bunch of wholesale and resale bakeries (think Greggs, but less shit).

Not hard, really. Do your sausage rolls contain real pork meat and not dog food??

Area supervisor for a company that provides medical equipment such as beds, mattresses and maintenance of such product to the NHS.

very rewarding job but also majorly niche. I always used to think hospitals had containers full of beds ready to go constantly …. Not the case :-/

I really would love to work outside something with the forestry commission but wouldn't even know where to start

Does your firm encouraged people not to think outside the box?

And seriously, kids, don't go in to insurance.

I support this message.  :D

Insurance Investigator, here, specialising in counter-fraud.

I would say I've learned that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that people won't lie about for money they aren't entitled to.

Oh, and every single time, without fail, that someone has ever said to me that they could not possibly lie to their insurance because their religion forbids lying, they have been proven to be lying. :P

You keep up that sterling work!

I don't really sell insurance. I underwrite it.

I just say I 'sell' insurance because its all anyone understands. Like its a commodity. I'm selling bananas here. FFS.

Anyway. You keep it going.

I'm currently an Amazon delivery driver.

Most of you know that anyway.

It's not what I want to do, but the money is decent and I can afford to save hundreds per week.

I was in car sales until I got made redundant in the pandemic. Cazoo bought out the company I worked for and made us all redundant, so we were all up shit creek as we couldn't even fall back on furlough payments.

Before that, I've managed a few pubs, but wouldn't do that again unless I owned the place myself. Overworked and underpaid in that industry.

I'm looking at getting back in the car trade if something exceptional comes up, I got down to the last few candidates at a BMW main dealer, but just missed out.

If not, I can stand doing what I'm doing at the moment and keep saving towards owning my own business, whatever that may be.

I always wanted to be a journalist. I went to uni as a mature student and got a first class degree in sports journalism.

Patisserie chef. Same job for 22 years straight from school so must enjoy it.

Did you always specifically want to be a patisserie chef or was that an Avenue you chose whilst doing the job? I think I’d have like to have gone to cooking school if I had my time again.

Great thread this by the way. I work for a software consultancy managing all of their talent acquisition in the north of England. When you speak about people’s CV’s all day you become really nosy as to what people do and why they enjoy doing it.

If you ever fancy moving out of IT talent acquisition and insurance acquisition, that's a bit of a thing right now up in Leeds and I can hook you up.

Sounds like you're happy though.

I wonder if I could make an intro in terms of those cross-discipline candidates that crop up in terms of IT/Insurance. I don't want anything for it, but might just help you two out?

Never even crossed my mind to become a patisserie chef. I was washing up where i work as an after school job then i flunked my GCSEs and they offered me an apprenticeship. Did college got my qualifications and been head chef for just over 10 years now. So ive not done to bad.

I have an antique/vintage/junk shop. Enjoy it immensely even though being self employed is stressful and I have no money haha. Not sure what else I’d do. I’ve had 100 jobs since dropping out of uni and never really lasted in any of them.   X

That is where I am so if the itch ever needs to be scratched I’ll give you a shout.

Do you find many cross discipline people with regards to Insurance/IT? I suppose that might be a better question for your other contact - if he thinks that’s worth while their side I would be happy to get in touch.

Yes; but we should take this to other channels.
