Has anyone ever set up their own company before? I have a semi decent idea but I don't have the know-how nor a single penny to my name.

Yeah, first point of call would be to meet with the small business advisor at your bank. If your idea needs funding, they can often arrange a business loan.

I'd also speak to an Accountant who can advice you on the legal structure of your business i.e. sole trader or Ltd company.

You'll probably need to create a business plan too and there's loads of advice/templates online.

Best of luck

Retired. My last role was that of a Police Community Support Officer. Loved the work and being outside. Scary and confrontational at times, but I survived. Sadly forced to retire early on a medical pension, following an accident.

Good for you. PCSO's are such a vital part of modern policing in terms of their role in supporting qualified officers in the field. I have a friend who started a s a PCSO and has recently become a qualified PC. Loved it then, loves it more now. Bizarrely he won't be trained to drive on blues for 2 years so if he has to respond alone, he has to drive at normal road speed and observe the normal rules of the road.

I've always loved how openly crude Jattdogg is. He's like the guy in the Innuendo Hospital sketch from Mitchell and Webb.

I did a free business 3 day course , not sure the one I did is still running but if you Google Free Business course a few pop up , it was well worth it and gave me the basics to set up a Ltd company and put me in touch with a free business advisor

Retired from running a government IT office.  Our systems paid the soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, retirees and contractors -- failure was not an option -- and did the accounting.  The biggest one “wrote” payments totaling a few hundred billion dollars a year.   Glad it’s all somebody else’s worry now TBQH.

Still doing my part-time job (25 years now) as a wine educator.

Anyone can be crude on the internets. In real life i am much more polished, proper and respectful. I can be crude in person too but its  limited  hehe.

Out of uni I’m an Analyst for a business strategy consultancy, mainly doing commercial due diligence for PE firms on companies they are looking to acquire, or broader strategy work for corporates. I’m not convinced of its true value to clients and am counting down the days until I apply for a Master’s in sports analytics and try and go down that route.
