My husband loved LCFC and needs your support 💙

Signed. Just to say that gambling has always ruined lives, but it’s particularly insidious that bookies and casinos can literally now live in our pocket. Worse than that they message you and use all sorts of manipulation to get you to engage.
My best mate’s girlfriend works for one the helplines for suicidal gamblers. What she has to listen to is horrific. To all of you in recovery. Stay strong. You’re doing amazingly well.

I am so sorry to learn of your story. These organizations knowingly seek to exploit and damage lives for their own profit, and they are accepted in society because they spread the money around to the proper politicians. Gambling is a dangerous tax, it provides no net benefit to the public, and we should guard against marketing efforts that lure people into the activity. We recognize that categories of dangerous products exist, and we have consequently banned or restricted advertising and marketing for such things, cigarettes for example. Gambling should be treated similarly, as it isn't just the bettor who loses, it is the family members who lose their property, their kids' college savings account, their homes, or in your awful case, their partner, all to enrich some a-holes who own and run the casino/sportsbook/gambling establishment. This is a business that is designed to take as much money off of its customers as possible.

Normalizing betting by allowing sponsorship of clubs and stadiums should be banned as well.

I finally watched the video.

Wow! That was seriously impressive. To speak for almost eight minutes in such a calm, controlled, eloquent and stoic manner, with no erms or fumbling, on a subject that must be immensely difficult for you to talk about. I take my hat off to you.

I have 2 daughters and if either do anything as impressive as that I will whack a big tick in the dad done a good job column.

I am left with an overwhelming sense of anger especially now I've looked at how many signatures there are. I'm not massively up with how to get these things moving but surely 100,000 signatures shouldn't be beyond us as a people.

What's the best way to get some traction on this?

Thank you so much, you literally had me in tears with your loveky words. 💙

I really don't understand why it hasn't even got 10,000 yet. The video has had 26,000 views but not every who has watched it has signed it. It can be very disheartening.

I know this is a long shot, but because of the response I have got from this football thread, I was thinking of posting in others. I don't know how much it will supported in others as we as leicester and obviously might not be as well received in other football club forums?

That is what I was thinking of doing? Do you think it will be ok to post on other football club's forums?

I feel sure it will be fine, it's a social problem that isn't confined to whose shirt you wear on matchdays.

Have you tried Bentleys Roof - http://www.bentleysroof.co.uk/index.php

I don't believe they have as many members but they have a few influential ones and like to do a bit of publicising of their forum.

Signed.

I hope the support you receive on here, and elsewhere, help to give you some strength in such a difficult time.

There's so many young blokes I know who seem to be constantly gambling on their phones. When I was in my teens, I didn't know too many others who gambled regularly, but there seems to be an epidemic now. A concerted effort to make more people aware that this type of thing is more common than people realise is what is required.

Oh no! I didn't mean to make you cry, I'm really sorry about that.

Please don't get disheartened it's nearing 7000 and tbh that's not terrible from the amount of views. It's the amount of views that needs to increase, the % of signers is what it is.

I know it sucks. You could probably stick a clip of a cat leaping away from a cucumber on YouTube in the morning and have a million views by lunch time. Something clearly more worthwhile seems much more difficult to get up an running. It just means when you finally succeed you will have a bigger smile on your face.

You really need to get an influencer or many of them to run with this. Anyone with tonnes of followers. How you achieve that is the tricky one. Just try reaching out to as many as you can, they can only say no.

Someone mentioned Mr Lineker earlier, with his Leicester connections seems an obvious choice. It could be something he would want to do but may not be able to. If he isn't directly paid by some of these companies he is more than likely indirectly paid by them.

That could be an issue with many an influencer too, why bite a hand that may potentially feed you at some point. Rich people have little morals or scruples when it comes to making cash, just look at those appalling adverts Phillip Schofield does.

Just have faith in yourself and you will achieve your goal.

I was intending to tweet this to Gary Lineker but thought it best coming directly from Annie @Lukeslaw

It really is worth a try to get him on board. Just a reweet would bring this to the attention of thousands.

That's a great idea this goes well beyond club allegiances, I sent it to Stevie Lynex (very popular ex Leicester player) and he re-posted it, normally anything that Steve posts attracts lots of comments but this hasn't, it won't be due to the content or message because believe me its a powerful video, in my opinion at 8 minutes long people may be put off investing the time into watching it, you say it has 26,000 views, but are they watching it right through or do they simply click off when they realise its a longer than usual piece. I don't know if you've considered an additional shorter video although clearly that would be hard to achieve the same power. Sorry if this message is unwelcome, maybe I'm just a bit cynical about today's instant click culture.

I see what you mean, there may be some merit in that. Lots of people have short attention spans, the tik tok generation 🙄

I've tried to get him to retweet so many times but he is a very busy man it seems.

Yes, might try a shorter video. It just seems rushed then but i will give it a go.

Thanks again everyone! The support is unreal. It's a very warm forum and you have all been amazing to me.

We’re a bunch of nice folk when you take out the football opinions ;)

Let us know how we can continue to help.

I've been on this forum for years, but very very rarely, if ever, comment. But I felt compelled to comment in this case.

Firstly to say I'm so deeply sorry for what you're going through, I can't imagine how hard the last few months must have been. But also to say that what you've done is a genuinely amazing thing. You're clearly a very strong person, remember that.
