What’s the opinion on Hirst?

He came here highly rated and it just doesn’t seem to have worked.

A few of us who watched him play Yth football and U23s always thought he was hugely over rated even at that level. Stood out in a poor Sheff wed Yth set-up but if it wasn't for his dad and his contacts i doubt he would have achieved what he has (england yth??) as there were so many better players than him through those age groups, most notably our own Josh eppiah.

Cant remember who was in charge when we signed him but suspect it may have been something to do with his dads relationship with Pearson (who was at OH at that time) and the fact we got him relatively cheap (Free??) so potential profit for any sell-on....but it was always doubtful he would ever get anywhere close to the level required to be in or around our first team or any other PL starting XI.

His relatively unproductive loan spells in the lower leagues seem to confirm the view many of us had of him

Pretty sure we tried to sign him the year before and offered about £2m for him, so I do think the club will have thought of him quite highly at the time, the Leuven deal was also at the time a really good way of getting around paying hefty compensation for him

He did/does have some talent, otherwise we wouldn’t have been initially willing to throw down a fair bit of money for him when he was 18, and he was attracting a lot of interest from Prem clubs, not just because of his links to his dad

Merc  -  https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-city-loans-hirst-wright-5892519

City striker George Hirst has not been able to make quite the same impact at Portsmouth, but has been backed by his manager to come good.

Hirst made his first start for Pompey in midweek as they lost 5-3 to Wimbledon in the EFL Trophy, the 22-year-old hitting the bar as he came close to his first senior goal in English football.

Prior to that, Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley gave him a show of faith, saying he cannot be judged on the 57 minutes of League One football he has played so far, with Hirst limited to four cameos off the bench for the south-coast club in the league.

“George is a young player with a point to prove and still trying to get fit,” Cowley told Portsmouth News.

“He tore his hamstring in the second from last game of last season, so we knew when we picked him up that it was going to be a progressive period.

“It’s very difficult. Not many players get a profile as a super sub, unless you are Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and of that ilk.

“It will be very unfair to judge George on that, but that’s football, people will. You can judge him, but you will probably get two wrong answers. It doesn’t give you enough sample size to be able to assess someone’s capabilities.

“Maybe this is the world we live in, we want to judge too quickly, too soon.

“He has talent, he has ability, he is going to be a good player. We are going to get him firing – and hopefully you can see it.”

...pretty much agree, he has talent and I believe the loans he has had have pigeon holed him to be a certain style of player!!!

For a player of his size and build, tossing the ball up to him is not how to utilise him, he is very good with the ball on the floor. I hope Cowley allows him to play in a way that gives him the chance to show his talents.

I think you may be right about the initial interest we showed but i still suspect much of the hype was driven by agents and his dads contacts in the game....especially with NP in the case of LCFC/OH.

personally, Im quite happy to stand by the initial assessments myself and several others made of him through the youth group years in that he was hugely over-rated and there were several other CFs of similar age who were significantly better than him......time will tell whether we were right or wrong.    No issue with your opinion as this is Just my personal opinion...

think it’s time some Leicester fans stop this love affair with him. Another manager who doesn’t play  him this time for a very weak team?

Most managers ease in new signings slowly out of a show of respect for the work the current players have been putting in.  Not unusual for a player to have to earn his spot first

Or a more rational theory, he joins a team during the international break so had little prep time with the team?

Gone to torino a team fighting relegation. Some fans think he should be in our team fa cup winners and top 4 . There would be no bedding in period if he was as good as some think.

He just isnt good enough sadly.

Nice to see Tyrese get some minutes in.

If Callum keeps up this form we'll see him in the Championship I'd hope.

Isn't this Iversen's second season on loan in the Championship? Not sure what we'll do next season.

Yeah Iversen did 2nd half of last season with Preston as well

I imagine we will try and get him in at a bigger team than Preston that can push for promotion (or even a newly promoted team if possible)

Unless Ward leaves next summer then maybe in as Number 2

Kasper's one of the oldest goalkeepers in the Premier League but I'd imagine he'll be first choice for two more seasons. Another year on loan in a better team surely. Then give Iversen some cup games. Surely we'd prefer to promote from within rather than buy. I'd be great if he stick with Denmark's national goalkeeper too!

There's no doubt at this point that Iversen is well above our level (PNE, mid-table Championship) - his save on Fleck last night was ridiculous. Sadly he's up against Schmeichel who is an elite goalkeeper because IMO Iversen walks into most Premier League sides, including at least one competing in Europe

What's he like under the aerial ball/commanding his area. For all of Kasper's qualities, his inability/unwillingness to leave his goal line at set pieces makes us vulnerable.
