Young Leicester City goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk is following in the footsteps of Kasper Schmeichel in more ways than one after joining Dunfermline Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The Polish youth international has signed up with the Scottish Championship side for the rest of the campaign and will hope to get his first taste of senior football while at East End Park.

If his aim is to mirror Schmeichel’s career, Stolarczyk is making a promising move by joining Dunfermline. The club’s manager is John Hughes, the same man who gave Schmeichel a chance when he was on loan at Falkirk 15 years ago.

And City’s number one has had a hand in recommending Stolarczyk to his old boss, who could not believe the quality of goalkeeper they have been able to recruit.

“When Jakub came onto the radar and we did our due diligence, we couldn’t believe it,” Hughes told the Dunfermline website. “We were saying if this could come off and we could get this guy then we have really knocked it off. When the supporters see him, they will see his physique and the size of him.

“He comes highly recommended by Kasper Schmeichel. And coming up to Scotland as a young guy did him no harm!

“Our contacts at Leicester told us: ‘Sign him in the next hour!’ We cannot believe it. He has shown enthusiasm to come up to Scotland to play football, it is unbelievable. He has maturity in the way he conducts himself and a maturity in that he knows where his football career is going.

“We are delighted to give him the platform and the whole plan is to get in there, get that (number one) position, keep it and hopefully he is here for next season as well. We can give him that stage to go and showcase his talent and he is right up for the challenge and right up for the fight.”

Stolarczyk, who played for City in pre-season and has been on the bench a handful of times this campaign, including in the Europa League against Napoli and in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool, did his homework before joining Dunfermline, showing his keenness.

Hughes added: “When we are talking to him and he is telling you the managers of this club, about the history of the club, Jock Stein, Sir Alex Ferguson and the history of Scotland but most importantly a real focus on playing his part for Dunfermline.

“So we are absolutely delighted to get him, we know all his attributes because we have done so much work on him.

“I am delighted that Leicester City see us as the best place for him to go and play football. They have helped us out so much and we are just delighted that just before the transfer window closes we have added another one to the squad.”

Dunfermline are seventh of 10 in the Scottish Championship, but only one point above the relegation spots. Stolarczyk could make his debut when they travel to Ayr United this weekend.

Wonder what's going to happen with Cal? His contract is up in the summer, I think with the likes of Alves and Wanya Marca on our books it's going to be difficult to see him get a chance but I'd hope we'd get a good sell on clause and a fee for him as he looks well capable of making it. Hopefully we have an automatic years extension and then get £500k-1m for him and a 25% sell on.

Next stage in our development as a club is to start selling more talent for profit who aren't going to break into our first team. Something Chelsea have become masters of selling academy players for profit, they made 40m this summer form selling players that had't even made a Chelsea first time app.

Leicester City prospect puts in 'energetic' debut display after deadline day transfer
The Leicester City player went straight into the starting XI for the Dundee derby in Scotland on Tuesday night

Vontae Daley-Campbell was described as "solid" and a "threat coming forward" after making his debut for Dundee against local rivals Dundee United on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old left Leicester City on loan on transfer deadline day, joining the Scottish Premiership side for the remainder of the season.

Manager James McPake put him straight into the starting line-up and he played around an hour before being substituted as the Dundee derby ended in a goalless stalemate at the Kilmac Stadium.

In a player ratings report by Football Scotland, the youngster was awarded a seven out of 10 for his efforts.

"The Leicester City loanee introduced himself to the Dundee fans with an energetic display at right-back," said the report.

"Thankfully for Daley-Campbell, he was ably assisted by flying winger McMullan in front of him, but chipped in with action in the final third.

"Although subbed for Jordan McGhee on 57 minutes, the 20-year-old showed enough to suggest he can provide good competition in the full-back areas."

Meanwhile, the report on Dundee's official club website noted: "Vontae Daley-Campbell was casual in possession on a couple of occasions, but apart from that was solid and offered a threat coming forward."

The report went on: "[He] pleased the Dee support with some exciting attacking down the right.

"The youngster from Leicester skinned Scott McMann with a nutmeg, but Anderson’s shot from the cross was blocked."
