....great to see he is getting his name on the score sheet with more regularity!!!

Glad to see they are playing balls to feet and in space for him to run on to. Keep on feeding him and he will score. He is a better level than this, he just needs to keep on producing for the rest of the season.

Portsmouth manager wants to sign Hirst permanently

Also still has 2 and a half years on his contract apparently

How much do you think we could get for him? I understand the allure of big payouts -- the Mahrez, Chilwell, Maguire, type deals -- but with a good academy, you hope the bread-and-butter deals would be a good source of income.

About 2 million and that would be a lot for a Div. 1 team. We have to be careful here Hirst ticks all the boxes bar the most important one - goals. If he starts scoring regularly Portsmouth flog him for £10 million. A buy back clause would be the best option.

....can we get him to a Championship club next season, is going to be the question!!!

He has found an understanding coach at Portsmouth and someone who knows how to use him. The confidence that Hirst will gain from Cowley's words might just leave him to want to play for him and give it his best.

I know Hirst is capable of playing at a much higher level, he will just have to play his way back through the leagues, as coming back here and not getting the placements that he needs might just set him back. I watched him in the U23s and felt he could play at a high level and could push his way into our first team, it hasn't worked out, so it will be up to him to decide if working himself through the leagues will not be the better offer.

Complete waste of time this loan for McAteer so far. FGR have been dog mess in recent weeks and yet he still can't get a game, frustrating. Wonder of this is an insight in to his ability or the reluctance of some teams of giving loan players a go. You see it time and time again of teams only taking loan players as back up.

....I like McAteer, his attitude on the pitch and willingness to go forward if the slightest chance appears!!!

He does not fit a specific role and that will be a drawback in how to use him. He is capable but not so much anything that is in anyway a standout player, much more a water carrier, that out of the blue will go on a run and end up in the box of the opposition, because he has assessed a situation and attempt to exploit it.

I was surprised he got the posting to Forest Green, there are other players in our team (such as Ewing) that would have benefitted from that loan.

If the rumours of Portsmouth wanting Hirst permanently are true, then a good end to the season and keeping up his recent goalscoring exploits will help us command a better fee and possibly attract more suitors. As for the player, he's had some barren loan spells so nice to see him finding his feet this season.

probably time to sell Ward in the summer for what we can get and have Iversen as the number 2, playing every cup game

.....the only thing that would do is take a player off the wages bill!!!

Iverson is getting weekly game time and is performing in a professional set up at a club looking to progress, Ward is at present warming the bench and is stuck so far as his opportunities are concerned.

If you were to ask them to swap places, I would believe Ward would say yes and Iverson would say no.
