Loans 2021/22

Recommended Posts

It's not unusual for the club to have very little contact once someone goes out on loan.

Guy did a great job overseeing several loans and had to look after them all.

Anyone else from the club very rarely has contact throughout a loan.

A little concerning though it seems hes been left in limbo since Guy left.

Someone should have stepped up once Guy made the decision to leave and looked after them till the end of their loans surely.

Any of McGuinnes, Petty, Cawley or Rudkin should have been in contact with him. A quick phone call every other week would mean a lot.

You’d feel let down as a player, especially when he’s not sure if his contract situation.

It's more that others at the club don't keep in touch with him. How's Rodgers or the U23 coach not had interaction with him, especially when out with a serious knee injury. Surprising but maybe it's not that unusual. You'd certainly have expected the club to have spoken with him since Branston left given his contract is up next month.

Same happened with Tom Lawrence. If they don't rate him they won't bother. They'll have been in touch with others on loan.

Mental if that's actually the attitude of the club. I cant believe the club find that an acceptable level of behaviour to their own players.

If you've ever spoken to a footballer after they'd been released you'd realise most clubs aren't the families they make themselves out to be. Hence why it should be no suprise when players jump at the first chance they get for a move. Loyalty is a two way street.

Leicester City striker to get first-team chance after impressing Brendan Rodgers on loan
The 23-year-old will feature in pre-season after a flourish to his loan spell at Portsmouth saw him finish as the club's top scorer and catch the eye of Brendan Rodgers

George Hirst will be given an opportunity to stake a claim for a place in next season’s Leicester City squad after impressing Brendan Rodgers with his development at Portsmouth.

The striker will feature for City in pre-season, Rodgers has said, after making leaps over the second half of his loan spell at Pompey. He was the club’s top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions as they finished in the top half in League One.

Hirst, 23, made his senior City debut in the summer of 2020 at the end of Rodgers’ first full season in charge. He then went on loan to Rotherham in the Championship, a spell in which he was in and out of the team and failed to find the net.

With Hirst having found his finishing touch at senior level on the south coast, Rodgers has said he wants a closer look at him in pre-season. The striker is among a number of City loanees whose seasons have now finished, with some back in at Seagrave, Rodgers revealing that he held a discussion with goalkeeper Daniel Iversen on Tuesday after the Dane was named player of the season at Preston in the Championship.

“Some are them starting to drip-feed back in,” Rodgers said on his loanees. “I had a long chat with Daniel Iversen today. Daniel has done great at Preston and won a lot of player of the season awards there. He’s had a great season.

“George has done great at Portsmouth and he’s someone I want to have a good look at over the course of pre-season. When I first came in, there was something in him. He’s 6ft 4ins, got a nice touch, he’s good in the air, he can run, he’s got decent speed.

"I felt he needed experience. He’s gone out and didn’t quite get the experience at Rotherham but at Portsmouth gradually he’s improved and developed.

"I think him coming back in the summer, we get a good chance to see him having played for points and having had something to prove. I would hope and I’m pretty sure I’ll see a step up both mentally and tactically in the game from him.

“These guys will get the chance to come back in. They’ve had long seasons themselves but I’ll look forward to seeing them again in the summer.”

City had nine young players out on loan in total for the second half of the season. Along with Hirst and Iversen, Callum Wright impressed with a combined 16 goals and assists for Cheltenham. However, the attacking midfielder has said he doesn’t know if City want to keep him around.

Also on loan were Kasey McAteer, Jake Wakeling, Josh Eppiah, Jakub Stolarczyk, Vontae Daley-Campbell, and Tyrese Shade. The latter announced he would be leaving the club this summer after five years in the development ranks.

Interesting that Rodgers has said Hirst will be around. He was massively rated as a kid. Ahead of players like Brereton Diaz and it seems like the penny has dropped. Since the turn of the year he got 13 goals in 25 games. Also scored loads of goals for the 23s.

Reading that, he's had a long chat with Iversen but not looking at keeping him around next season.......

The selling surely doesn't make sense for us with Kasper not stopping going on about wanting to move.

Not if the manager and/or club don't rate him and think its the perfect time to cash in after a brilliant season in the Championship.

I've heard plenty of stories on Undr the cosh to be fair. Some clubs seem terrible at it and others seem brilliant. No surprise that the players are willing to go the extra mile for clubs that look out for their players, whereas the ones treated poorly want to get out asap.

Certainly not one I expected to be in contention but happy to hear he will be given a chance to impress during the summer.

Plenty of players have been given the same opportunity in pre-season and haven’t excelled however. Hopefully Hirst will take his chance.

Would assume he's gonna be loaned to a prem team? Is only thing I can see making sense

...probably spending the money for the RW on picking up Jordan Pickford!!!

Can't recall how many #2s become #1s. We did it with Banks >Shilton> Wallington, it does not seem to work that way any longer.

If and it’s a big if, hirst has the ability to play in the premier league. He could be ideal for that plan b option. Not just because he’s tall but because he’s also quick and good with his feet, which means we can continue to play our style but also have someone who could get on the end of a cross .. oh and whisper it.. defend corners

I do miss the days that rather than bringing on vestergarde and parking the bus entirely, we could bring on leo up front. He would still give you that extra defensive support when you are defending a lead but without having to compromise the whole teams shape.

I don't see a PL team being interested in a loan for him. Buy him outright maybe.

Fulham don't really have a standout keeper, he'd also arguably get in at Huddersfield, Luton and Sheffield United. Forest love that Samba despite him being a liability.

Also newly promoted teams would probably rather spend their cash on outfield players to 'please' the fans.
