Loans 2021/22

....you would think the quality of training they would be getting in a Premier League club would see them above the ability of League one clubs!!!

Our U23s go out on loan and are struggling to excel in lower leagues and that is quite a sad indictment, having come through the system since 8 years old. Are we failing these players or are the players letting themselves down.

If the reason is not the training they have been given, then it has to be the ability to go out and play in competitive games, in order to mature and hone their skills. At present we play in a league for their appropriate ages and unless you are special, the elevation to a higher and a more mature competition does not manifest itself.

What if we were to take Braybrooke, and play him in League two or even higher, would that accelerate his development or is that going to be too much too soon. We should not be sending players from our academy out there into lower leagues and finding that they can't compete, that is a poor reflection on our coaching and failure to instil a confidence that they can take with them knowing that they have come through a school of excellence and only their lack of application holds them back.

Not really, look at some of the players we had on loan in our League One and Championship days. Jesse Lingard and Harry Kane went on to have pretty good careers despite not looking anything special here.

Tom Cleverly was brilliant in League One, Gilbert from Arsenal was pretty average at that level and the Swedish lad we had from Liverpool was rubbish.
Ryan Smith came from Arsenal on loan in the championship with a big reputation- he had one good game and was rubbish.

Many players have different experiences on loan, with many different factors beyond just their football abilities - first time away from home, the manager they are playing for, the culture of the squad,  their own friendship group, the step up to playing against big experienced pros and many more things will affect how successful their loan is.

Harry Kane is the prime example, had an average loan spell with Leyton Orient in League two, stepped up to Millwall and looked okay, with us he was benched and played out of position - nothing in his loans suggested he was going to be England’s future captain and record goal scorer.

A loan is just about learning your trade, getting used to playing against bigger stronger players. Very few players tear the league apart when on loan. - Harvey Barnes might be the exception.

Iversen aside, who’s have a great spell in the Championship, safe to state that our loan players aren’t getting on that well.

Callum Wright seemed to be doing okay, not sure how long he’s out injured for though?

Worst case 6 months, back with us for now and I imagine will stay with us during recovery

He's at it again...

You have something very special on your hands in Iversen.

Definitely, you don't give many player a 5.5 year contact without having made a single game for the club.

He will be Kasper longer term replacement.

Could do with a PL next season.

Be interesting to see how he gets on against Liverpool in the cup if he plays.

I think generally speaking stepping up for a keeper is a little different to other positions.

more pressure harder saves to make but overall they don’t have to physically adapt the same way as outfield players.

A good save is a good save.

https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/cheat-code-leicester-city-loanee-21706127

Preston North End goalkeeper Daniel Iversen produced an outstanding display in the Lilywhites' 1-1 draw against Stoke City on Tuesday night.

The on-loan Leicester City man made magnificent stops in both halves to keep out Nick Powell and Josh Tymon - when the Potters players looked certain to find the net.

"I thought he was excellent," said head coach Frankie McAvoy. "We know we have a safe pair of hands."

Iversen, meanwhile, was modest as ever, saying 'you just do what you have to do'.

He is someone who believes goalkeepers should make the kind of saves he does, but that it is a dying art among modern shot-stoppers, with an equal focus now on footwork and technical ability.

PNE supporters though could not care less if Iversen booted the ball into the stand every time he kicked it, because his saving ability helps the Lilywhites pick up results at the end of the day.

Lots of supporting tweets from their fans in the article.

Wow, just had a quick look on twitter. Obviously taking fans opinions with a pinch of salt but he is getting praised no end.
