Sowah (Loan)

Bad decision to sell him, loan OK but selling him , like Josh Knight , is a very bad decision. The money is going to make no difference and it does seem a cheap thing to do.

potentially around 8m quid for someone that hasn't kicked a ball for us is bad business? He did OK last season but it wasnt ground breaking.

Good lucky to him if he wants to go and paly football rather than just pick up a wage and sit in our under 23's

This 8m could be used to get some one in on loan to either help us defensively or a winger that will actually make our squad.

and Josh Knight is a championship defender at best currently.

How do we know that? he might kick on like Madueke? then it won't look so good.

yeah he might also turn out to be average.

You win some you lose some in football and more often than not we seem to get it right.

I cant really name anyone we have let go (that hadn't ever really had a chance) that we would think they would get in our team now.

yeah we need a winger who is a nailed on starter. Playing in the europa and gunning for top 5 again means we have no time

to blood someone into the side who may or may not need time to settle into the side..

That sounds logical but unless we start spending big we are not going to get that player. We go on and on about this but we really need to see the colour of LCFC's money. They have eight days to show us that.

I think our failure to offload Praet and Hamza has forced our hand..

Fofana injury was the real spanner in the works. We've had to outlay 15m on an additional defender when we were already being linked with some others anyway.

Praet I don't think we were actively trying to sell, though we would sell him for a reasonable offer. I don't think he's in the same camp as Slimani, Silva, Ghezzal were for example. Iborra is the one he most reminds me of; a good player but hasn't quite worked out as either he or us would like. We'll keep him because he's useful but probably better off going somewhere else to play every week. So when a half decent Italian team comes knocking he will probably be off, but that might not be right now. Admittedly because of the Fofana injury perhaps we are now actively looking to sell him.

This fee for a player that has never featured once in the first team is a great fee. Just a bit unfortunate that he never got a chance, because he definitely has some talent. But if our hand is forced, then sometimes you have to make difficult decisions and this fee is too good to pass up.

TBH this has Agent Rudkin written all over it. We've blatantly agreed a fee for someone and need to find the cash to finance it. Sowah is the sacrificial lamb.

Good luck to him, he'll probably win trophies in Belgium this season.

Dunno. If we are to believe the wisdom of said soothsayer, George Hirst would be on the cusp of England honours right now

I think the sowah fee will be to get the guy in on loan and will be taken off the final price when we sign him next season with next seasons budget.

The hattrick in the World Cup final not enough for you?

Could be spot on. It seems like we tend to sign players in instalments anyway, so this could free up an upfront fee for someone.

Im hopeful it’s what we are doing. If Sowah needs to be sacrificed then fair enough, and for that price you can’t grumble. He’s not really produced anything that would suggest he will be what we need this season.

I reckon we will get someone dead good in and this will cover his loan fee only for us to sign him  permanently next season  for what might seem like a bargain, but with this loan fee taken off the full fee.

Don't do it to yourself MPH, it'll only hurt more next Tuesday when that window slams shut and there's an Ayoze Perez hologram burned on the inside of your eyelids when you go to sleep.

Actually the other thing that comes to mind is that Youri has signed his deal, and he will be one of our joint highest earners.

But I think that's separate to any transfer activity as that was put on the table last season and this is purely to generate more funds.

Funds for AGENT RUDKIN to work with...

It's difficult to stomach seeing a young left footed winger with endless pace let go when we have a lack of both left footed players, right wingers and pace in this team. In Brendan we trust 😳

I don't think he's got any interest in strengthening the wide options, he just wants to play a back five with full backs providing width. 👎

I’ll trust the judgement of the club on this one. Was bang average in pre-season (yes I know the games are meaningless, but still) and £7m+ is not a small amount of money for a player that has obviously failed to convince Rodgers - a coach who specialises in developing young players.
