Foden is better and I won't argue that but Mount is wrongly untouchable. He's substantially outperformed him. Mount's been bang average for England as well.

People will blame the casino incident but it's horse manure. Maguire got away with far worse.

I don’t get Southgate saying Maddison competing with Foden?

Foden is a winger not a number 10. He’s competing with Mount in that #10 position in the 4231 England have played the past couple of years. Smith-Rowe was Mount’s backup in that position earlier in the season. Smith-Rowe’s place is the position in the squad he should be in. Yet we have 4 right backs in the squad for some reason.

That’s not true tbf. I know people like to rag on Mount, but he’s had another great season and his numbers are comparable to Maddison, better if you count only league numbers.

The ridiculous thing is saying he’s competing with Foden who plays in a different position.

And who is massively overhyped

Absolutely bedazzled how Justin has got a place and Maddison hasn’t, fair play to Justin, but he hasn’t been great since injury, Maddison on the other hand has done enough in my opinion for a call up, I know it’s a tough position with England having good options but come on give the man a chance

Things like this don't usually bother me and I like Southgate as a guy mainly. But it has made me pretty angry.

But for me, this feels completely personal. Give the guy a chance to compete with Mount and Foden. They are both playing at the top level, he's has done what he has done in a side having an average mid-table season.

Well done to JJ, but he hasn't been great since he's been back in. But he can play right-back so Ian Holloway(sorry Gareth Southgate) Will like that.

On the contrary, I’d be even less inclined to go to one of those clubs just to appease GS.

You may be right. I doubt he would have picked him even if he won the golden boot and achieved most assists. I dont know what it is but he clearly won't have him. Maybe he can find a Welsh grandparent and play for them instead...

Not many other options for left back to be fair. That Palace left back no-one had ever heard off got in the last squad, is he injured? Surprised Matt Targett hasn't got the nod.

Delighted for Justin. But no Madders is absolutely criminal. Bowen deserves to be there of course he’s had a great season. I just can’t get my head around the Maddison omission.

Likewise. For Justin to come back so well after his ACl and make the England squad is a massive achievement. As for madders I don’t know what to say. He is in the form of his life and  one of the best players in the league on current form. This just reflects poorly on Southgate as he offers something different from the other offensive players. Hopefully Madders will rest up and enjoy his holiday and then come back more determined than ever to force his way in to World Cup reckoning. If he continues to sustain this form he will be hard to omit as his visibility increases.
