Man City (H) Pre-Match Thread (Sept. 11, 3pm)

Recommended Posts

Man City next - flying on the back of back-to-back 5-0 victories!

When the fixtures were released, I was really optimistic about getting these at home so early in the season, but on the back of our three showings thus far, trepidation mounts. The international break could not have been more timely!

Best hope is that Evans would be back, and although he is likely to be rusty first game back his experience would be invaluable and help to settle and better organize our defense. Similarly, hopeful that whatever is presently ailing Vestergaard's knee would have fully resolved itself, and he would have been further rested and gotten more reps in with the rest of the team during the international break. Likewise, Bertrand would have been rested during the break and fitter. And though Ricardo is unlikely to be available for this one (barring a major miracle - but even then would advise against 'rushing' him back), the international break helps his recovery for the medium- to long- term.  Hopefully, no one comes back crocked from the international break.

Of course a new RW would help (even if not meaningfully for this Man City game). Come on FOXES! :scarf:

Fully expecting 3/5 at the back for this

Hopefully Ricardo, Vestergaard, Evans, Bertrand will all be back - although probably a bit too soon for a start for Evans

Ridiculous to think that even without JJ and Fofana added to it that is still a very good back 4 that is out injured

We will get overrun if we play Tielemans, Ndidi & Maddison in midfield.

Hopefully Soumare or KDH get a chance. Their work rate / physicality will be very important for this match.

Need to buck up our ideas, quality , defending ur they’re going to royally spank us!!

All we can hope is our long injury list gets  smaller & get our top players back, think this international break has come at the right time for us what with injuries & performance or lack of to get sorted out also if we manage to sign the Brazilian winger May give him a time to get to know the lads !!

We have Napoli 5 days later. The Napoli game is more important to win.

A draw against Manchester City and a win against these would be great; 2 wins would be excellent.

Would be tempted to only play Vardy in half of the City game and give him more game time in the Europa game.

Who's going to suggest this to Brendan?

Need to play daka in europa imo and save vardy for the league. Or if vardy drops off then switch them around.

I can’t see how we don’t lose whatever formation we play

They genuinely look unstoppable at the moment

They will target Madders, Barnes etc.  I think Brendan sticking to the same team regardless of form is too predictable for everyone let alone another manager. Pep will have a field day! He needs to change it up and use the new signings, KDH and Praet. Fresh legs and eager to play! Surprise them a bit and keep them guessing. We are too samey and boring and sluggish at the moment.

They look virtually unstoppable. Only way to get something from this I reckon is to go full sh*thouse. As painful as it is to say it 3-5-2 For me and go direct. Will need legs in midfield so KDH comes in - was a toss up between him and Soumaré but being a leftie will hopefully give a bit more balance. Daka vs Kel was another tough one but think we’ll have to play on the counter and Daka’s pace could be invaluable to stretch them. Vestergaard gets in ahead of Evans purely because he’s more likely to be fit but hopefully both will be available for selection soon.

                            Schmeichel

           Amartey - Vestergaard - Söyüncü

Castagne - Tielemans - Ndidi - KDH - Bertrand

                           Daka - Vardy

Vs Napoli

Rotations to keep everyone fresh.

                      Schmeichel

Castagne - Evans - Söyüncü - Thomas

Albrighton - Ndidi - Soumaré - Barnes

                          Maddison

                             Daka

I like this formation but always feel more secure playing with a goalkeeper
