Ademola Lookman signs on loan

Recommended Posts

To be fair to him, his preferred role is on the left not the right. We should’ve bought a specialist right sided attacker and invested some proper funds into it. We haven’t come close to replacing Mahrez and how many years has he been gone now? We’ve tried to fix it generally with budget signings (Ghezzal, Under and Lookman) or by playing top dollar for a central striker and shoving him on the wing (Perez.)

Lookman is probably better seen as an alternative or sub for Barnesy. The fact that he can do a job on the right is probably why he was signed (as a useful utility attacker) but also why he’s struggling. Lookman should’ve been a squad signing based on his current level and his mixed up utility role but he’s actually been utilised as our first choice right sided attacker. It’s clear that he isn’t yet anywhere near the level that a team aspiring for a top 6 place needs from a regular starter. He’s playing like I’d expect a young player learning his game to display when he’s being played out of position. It’s the same thing that happened to Perez, asked to plough the wide right role last year despite clearly being a number 10. It didn’t help Perez’ career with us and it’s not doing any favours to Lookman.
Ultimately is he any better than Gray? I’m not sure he is - he’s similar in his inconsistency and actually has far less pace.

Gray is a far better player. Proven by his spell at Everton. A run of games and gray is showing some consistency.

Whats he supposed to be good at? Can't pass, can't shoot, has no pace, doesn't have a trick in him and it's not like he's got a great touch. Just all round nowhere near the level we should be aiming for.

I agree with this.  Lookman is poor doesnt track back either yet gets picked every game why?  I was looking at our FA Cup final team that played.  Why have Ineacho, Perez been left out recently they both played well that day Perez set up the goal with the break up of play.

Because we persist with this formation to accommodate Barnes.

Iheanacho come into the side last season and played alongside Vardy when Barnes was injured. Rodgers was forced into that change.

It's so frustrating to see us stick with one up front just so we play Barnes. Lookman went off yesterday and Daka was shoved out wide which took him out of the game completely.

As for Lookman, well, I don't know what he offers. I wouldn't be anywhere near signing him permanently.

We knew when we signed him that he was poor.

What really gets me is the fouls he gives away when he loses it. As if the opposition need another invitation to put the ball in the box.

signings this season have been dreadful, still think Soumare will come good but packing the squad out with dog shit is bewildering. Improve the first lX for ****s sake. You wanna keep you best players happy and keep the core of your squad then show some ****ing ambition

Completely - and Lookman ostensibly was brought as cover for him, his favoured position being an inverted winger on the left flank.

We have unfortunately through necessity but also choice, deployed several players out of their preferred/best position under Brendan.

I know this is going to be really controversial but I think if Daka could hit a bit of form I could see Vardy playing effectively on the right.

Got an amazing footballing brain. Could flourish anywhere in the front line. Unselfish, accurate passer and strong on both legs. Daka and Vardy could create mayhem if started together.

I think he was decent today. Got a great ability to beat people in tight situations to start an attack. Might be unpopular opinion but if we can get him for a low , sub 10 mil price in the summer he could be worth a permanent signing.

Agree, thought he was effective today mainly second half and was very composed for his goal.

Everton paid under 2m for Demarai Gray after he flopped in Germany,if we want him we should pay roughly the same. Previous games he been so poor particularly the Villa game with his constant fouling
