Transfer Target IN - Jesse Lingard

Recommended Posts

Outperformed his xG by 0.34 p90 minutes over the last year. That’s likely one of the highest over performances there’s ever been, totally unsustainable.

0.81 goals and assists p90 over the last 365 days from a non penalty xG + xA of 0.31 p90.

Swerve.

Why even have this topic? He wouldn't come to Leicester EVER, after his previous loan spell.

Spot on, he didn't even want a permanent move to West Ham under Moyes who he know well, the guy didn't even make a fuss about wanting a move, I've said this earlier that the loan move was all about him. To get back in the Man U team and to get back in the England squad, if he didn't give a toss about WHU do you think he cares about Leicester? Then again I maybe wrong.... he just wants to run down his contract so he can go on a free to get a bigger salary abroad..... maybe

....there are a lot of players who do not kick up a fuss regarding moving or moves falling through!!!

Edouard made no fuss regarding leaving Celtic, even when he and us, were convinced he was coming to Leicester, Dennis Praet made no overtures regarding getting out of our club, some players handle these things with decorum, some only think how much money they are losing everyday the move does not come off.

No reason why he would not come here, the Manchester members of our squad have commuted for a long time and that seems to have worked for them, and no reason why he should uproot totally in order to switch clubs.

I mean, not really Bert no.

Not the way Rodgers is determined for us to play, anyway. He suits the way the fans wish we played and that's something fairly different. We only really play counter attacking football a couple of times a year against the biggest clubs in the league.

He proved at West Ham he's a great fit in a team that's going to specialise in broken field play on the counter, he links up the attack and defence well, he carries the ball fairly well, he's got bags of energy and he's hard working, nobody can fault that.

But if you want to get the ball down, pass it around and break down a side - which is Rodgers whole MO - he's pretty much shit.

No it isn't. He's suited to counter attacking and playing in space. We don't need strenghening on that front with Vardy, Barnes and Daka.

He's not the sort of technical wizard to keep the ball moving quickly when faced with two banks of four as we usually seem to be these days.

Edit just read @Finnegans post who makes this same point more articulately.

Good enough for Manchester United & England.

Not good enough for Leicester.

Maybe you mean good enough for West Ham and not Leicester. He doesn't play for Man Utd. As for England he was in a purple patch and got picked based on that, he'll drop out the squad now he's back in the MU reserves.

In any case we play a totally different style of football to Man Utd and England and he won't fit in with it. Hence why he won't be coming here.

Do our fans like anyone apart from Vardy, Youri and Kasper?

Well, if you look through the Kasper thread there are quite a few who think we could do better, Vardy gets written off every 3 months or so, and Youri has announced he may not sign a new contract… I personally think we have got to have the most miserable bunch of whining fans in England. When you think about who we are and where we’ve come from it truely is baffling

Hes had 8 good games in in the past how many years? He isn't good enough to play for Leicester or England. It's as simple as that.

He luckily got into the England squad at the back end of last Season due to the 8 good games he had. How on earth he got in this time round for the latest international break 😂😂😂

Like I said in my first post. Maddison gets slated here and they're practically the same numbers wise. Maddison has 49 games on him to get 7 goals.

Lingard v Maddison PL Stats.

APP 151 v 102

GOALS 28 v 21

ASSISTS 14 v 15

Lingard is a great young player though... fits out model brilliantly. Let's sign him 🤪

....in the great scheme of things we are in a very small period of our existence in respect of our present stature!!!

We have never had this kind of recognition as we have at present, even going back to before the war. We are just not used to where we are, and with the younger audience the older supporters and the ones that have watched us transition, it is a complicated fanbase with differing views of our progression.

People posting negatively are the ones more afraid of everything disappearing overnight and are in the "...I told you so...." camp. They are just not going to become so reliant on our success because should it go away, they would see this as a loss, a kind of bereavement, and are protecting themselves from what may happen.

The overly positive poster even arrogant posters are the new breed, who views us on a par with the United's of this world. They do not revere United in the same way as  they were in the past, they are seen as just another team who we should be going head to head with.

The level headed posters  are in a way killjoys to both the previous groups but are tolerated to a degree.

At the end of all this, we all have one thing in common.

Who said he was young?

Dunno what his games have been like in the last 8 years as I’ve not watched him week in week. But he’d certainly make a difference here.

Comparing him to Madders is like comparing Iheanacho

to Salah. One plays a 10 one plays on the wing.

Oh right. I’m sure he scored for them at the weekend.

Lingard would make complete sense for us if the club privately believed that Maddison's hip injury is chronic and we'll never see the best of him again.

This is my fear - that one of the rising stars of English football has been crocked by being too 'frail' to cope with its physical demands.

He needs a time-out - maybe two years gentle rehabilitation with some core muscle-building on top of that.

Nothing to do with Lingard - who could be an accomplished addition to the squad as an infill, but not as the long-term answer. Change of venue often revitalises players, but it doesn't change their fundamental character.

However, in his defence, perhaps it wasn't Lingard losing his way, but maybe the toxic atmosphere created by the demand of owners, fans and media for success getting to the players.
