Napoli H Post Match Thread 2-2

Recommended Posts

As others have said, a weird mixture of brilliant and terrible, but the later is partly because (rightly or wrongly) BR used the game to get more than half of the players up to speed. More than half the team couldn’t de described as fully match fit.

Napoli also know their way round European competition and certainly how to make the most of refs like that.

They were a very good side going forward, and we went toe-to-toe with one of the best sides in Italy. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Unlike the two gobshites behind me who must have been watching a match where we were 12-0 down after 6 minutes, I really enjoyed it. Can't beat a good European night.

Sure, some shocking bits of play, some woeful passing, some tedious dallying and losing the ball as a result - but some cracking passing, two very good goals, and I'm in love with Daka and Soumaré.

Bring on the next one.

I’m sure those two gobshites are around here somewhere.

When you take into consideration they did Juve at the weekend, you can't sniff at a point but it did hurt having been 2-0 up.

The refereeing was poor all night.

As soon as you saw the Napoli Ultras all in black you know there's potential to kick off. That's their insurance to minimise being easily identified.

Great evening, I've always wanted to see us up against decent Italian opposition.

I think we’re going to get a UEFA bollocking for the disturbances post-match.

Looked like the 'Ultras' were being ***** and the police kicked the shite out of them from what I could tell. Tossers flipping their belts and all sorts.

That set of Officials was an absolute ****ing shambles, how you are supposed to have 'respect' for artigant shit ***** like that I will never know!! Absolute dog shit refereeing decision from them, same foul for us not given, booking for us, same foul not given. VAR check took too long, if it takes that long it can't be 'obvious'. So far tje Premier League seems to have got it most right this year. UEFA made a right cluster **** of that shit tonight, I didn't help the ref was a biased arrogant ****.

A partial stadium closure isn't unheard of in UEFA competition for these kind of offences. It would be such a shame as it would be as section of the family stand that would close. All the kids missing out on watching European football because some guys thought they were hard and wanted to have a go at some European Ultras. Ultimately it was Leicester fans who got into the away end and not the other way round so I would expect Leicester will be the team punished the most.

Annoying to blow a 2 goal lead but I can't say we deserved to win that.Napoli were far better overall.  Napoli reminded me a bit of Liverpool in regards to their fierce pressing of our defenders turning our pissing about at the back tactic from mind numbingly ineffective to suicidally incompetent! Also and I hate saying this but if we want to go far in this tournament, our cheating has got to improve. Couple of feeble dives from nacho and tielemans were never going to be given and we have to get better at it. Rubbish as it is screams, rolling around, smacking the turf with your fist in faux agony etc will all make a difference in European competition and if we don't do it the opposition sure will. Modern football is f**king horrible.

That was enjoyable (and painful) to watch. As many have said - this is the joy of being in Europe going toe to toe with a very very decent Napoli side.

Some strange passages of play - particularly the last 15 minutes of 1st half where we couldn't pass the ball at ALL

Perez haters, will probably be right next time we see him in PL but proves he's a useful squad player.

Don't agree with that personally. Thought we played the better football for the first hour fairly comfortably. We wobbled after they scored, looking like a team with a makeshift defence and some confidence issues.

Thought they looked a bit underwhelming and wasteful before the last quarter.

Ironically, think Rodgers was a bit too keen with the subs this time.

We will have to agree to disagree then. After our opening goal, I felt they were all over us and we could not deal with their press at all. They created a lot of openings and only because their shooting and finishing were sub-Ndidi standard, we went to halftime with the lead. Actually thought we were better 2nd half, but still made way too many mistakes in our passing game, as we still struggled with their press. Thought we could nick the win until Osimhen decided to humiliate our entire defense.

I feel like we are 2nd best too often at the moment and our performances reminds me of our end of season form, from the last few seasons. Really hope we get into to gear soon.

We are the worst side in the premiership, for making short passes , I lost count how many times we gave the ball away . But I really think it’s the way we play we plays short then evans plays a ball to a wide fullback who has no we’re to go so he passes the ball to the opposition. The goal against Manchester city came from Kasper playing someone into trouble , we really look like a side that wants to play forward but then just plays backwards then end up playing a team mate into trouble.

I think that's the closest we get to a Champions League game for a while, it was beauty.

Sure, disappointing to lose a 2 goal lead, but it wasn't a surprise.

We did play some delightful stuff and Soumare really grew into the game.

Would it be out the question to have a 'Substitution Coach/Analyst/Specialist/Consultant?

Rodgers could save that expense and just ask anyone in the crowd, his substitutions have become the equivalent of Maddison's corners.

Great entertaining  game and lovely atmosphere.

European  night at it's best!

Like many have said, some sh1t play and some real quality. Perez's build up play and the team goal was world class.

Pity about the "disturbances" in L1, but lcfc shouldn't have had the napoli fans so close, normally they section away fans off better.

But our Stone Island Nike wearing bouncers were out in force too, phones clutched to ears whilst "sorting" out what yo do , before no doubt running off home to bed 5 mins before final whistle!!

Let's have some perspective  again though, Napoli beat their League champions at the weekend, we lost to ours.

They have more European  pedigree  in one finger than we have on our hands.

We did well .

I bet they got caught by surprise Napoli positioned themselves at the front of the stand not the back.

Napoli are a good side. Offensively I thought we did well, but defensively well below standard. Soyuncu for me is becoming a liability. If everyone fit he goes straight to 4th choice CB. Bertrand and Vestergaard still to convince me. Thought Soumare was having a good game, would have left him out there. Don't need Maddison messing around like a dressage horse in the Olympics when protecting a lead.

So now I've had a night to dwell on it, I'm content with a point. They are a good side clearly and are doing very well this season. They could have score 4 goals in the first half so we were a tad lucky to be 2 goals up. Overall a point is probably a fair result.

Soumare was probably our best player, he really grew into the game, made some really good passes and was decent breaking up play. Ndidi didn't have the best of games. Wasn't his usual self and kept giving the ball away. I thought that actually the sub for Maddison wasn't the reason we gave away 2 goals. He actually worked hard when he came on and really got stuck in.

Nacho as great as he has been recently, didn't have a great game. He really needs to improve his decision making. A few times he had the ball and could have passed either Daka or Barnes through and instead he just kinda ran into their defense!

Barnes was a mixed bag. He clearly isn't back to his pre injury self. Showed some great moments when he actually ran at their defense but he didn't do it enough. Often he was caught flat footed when being passed to.

Daka I thought had a decent game. Clearly a talent and I hope he gets more game time. I thought he should have been leading the line instead of Nacho.

Defensively again a mixed bag. Far too many times we lost possession in dangerous areas due to us insisting on passing it out the back. Vestergaaard and Evans were a bit more comfortable than Cags and Vestergaaard. Cags has an issue at the moment. He's actually a liability. Also Kasper, yes he had some great saves but wtf is wrong with his distribution! It's become worse if anything!

Overall really enjoyed the game. To think we are going toe to toe with Napoli is amazing! Roll on the next European night!
