Napoli H Post Match Thread 2-2

Recommended Posts

Fair result although they had the chances to win it. We played well in the first 25 minutes of each half and then started to get run over. Our CBs were shaky throughout and we gave away the ball far too many times messy around at the back. Big opportunity missed after being 2 up after 70 mins

we looked great going forward but they took us apart at the other end as well.

Ref gave us **** all and gave them everything, goal looked onside.

Think we lost it a bit when he took Daka off, shape wasn't the same.

overall fair result given the chances they had but we could have easily won it

Got a feeling this season's going to be a write off very shortly. Something seem completely off with this team and I'm not sure what it is. Maybe a little of a lot of things.

It could just be because he keeps playing out of form players instead of sticking with in form players.

Napoli are an excellent side, but we looked a threat throughout because of the quality and pace of our forwards.

We had our best spell in the few minutes between the disallowed goal and Barnes' goal, and were looking at our most comfortable before they scored their superb 1st goal.

Was concerned before the game about Evans and Vestergaard playing together because of their lack of pace and that showed. The latter was outmuscled too many times by Osimhen. Also, disappointed by Youri. He's got the ability to control the game and help us see it out but he gave the ball away too many times.

Positives are Barnes looking really sharp, he's a confidence player so watch him fly now. Bertrand and Castagne also defended well and Ndidi was solid. Thought Perez started well too but was the right move by Rodgers to take him off as they were hurting us on the flanks.

And the referee was poor - gave them every 50/50 while being harsh on us.

Not when the lines were drawn, it didn't.

Impressed with Soumare, he looks decent. I know people question iheanacho’s touch but I thought he did well tonight. Lookman actually looks decent as well. Good work rate. They score some decent goals.

Ref dodgy as a gone off milk. Soft sending off when there was worse fouls by them that didn’t get put in the book

Don't think the ref can be blamed entirely.

We were good in patches but the team that finished the game was disjointed and just not really very good.

Centre defence and centre midfield was pretty weak.

But it's a learning curve against a strong team.

just wish our learning curve was a bit less flat and more curvey

Couple of dodgy calls, and he was probably more lenient towards Napoli, but the referee got most decisions correct. It’s patently obvious we should be looking at our players, not the officials for that one.

Mentally not strong enough to hold on under pressure AGAIN.

It’s remarkable how capable we are of just falling apart.

Yeah, for the last few minutes you're right. Before that you're using the referee as an excuse to ignore the shortcomings of our team at the moment.

Might be an idea to read my post about the shortcomings of the team. That doesn't make the referee's performance any more acceptable.

Some of you on here need to give your heads a wobble. Napoli are a top side with some top, top players and we’ve just been very unlucky to not beat them.

Some positives to take with Barnes, Soumare and Daka all playing well plus minutes for Evans and Nacho.

All that is true but we were 2-0, up...

Annoying way to draw 2-2, but they were by far the better team. We always struggle with the high press, but they did seem to be on the same energy bars as Liverpool; jeez what a frantic pace and press they put on us. Osimhen just to good. Ended up a hard fought point.

Was annoyed with the ref 1st half, but thought ok this is his line. Then he let one of the them get of with nothing from a similar tackle that Ndidi got booked for on Bertrand. Booking Vestergaard for standing his ground, which he let go every time a Napoli player did it and giving their 13 a free pass stoping 2 counters before finally yellowing him in injury time. Been a while since I have seen such a one sided ref performance.

I see the referee is taking the blame for Rodgers's inadequacies tonight.

Got it completely wrong the whole first half, then after his adjustments had made us competitive, he decides to bring Maddison on to shore up the midfield!!!!!

Vardy should have been on as soon as Osimhen scored his first, and the decision to bring Maddison on led directly to Ndidi getting a red.

Bertrand/Vestegaard were clearly more knackered than Soumare too, and it's no surprise Napoli destroyed us down that side the last 20 minutes, Ounas dominated a tired Bertrand.

Soumare should have stayed on, Vardy on with 20 to go and Thomas on for Bertrand.

Soyuncu and Vestegaard scare me. The latter has to be the weakest player I've ever seen going shoulder to shoulder with a player, and I've watched Demari Gray and James Maddison for the last 5 years.

At least we didn't lose, but the mentality from 2016 is long gone, even if these are, realistically, great times.

Exactly, Vestegaard just literally gave up and let the Napoli striker just breeze past him. Shocking defending.
