LEICESTER legend Wes Morgan has donated a £10,000 retirement windfall he received from the PFA to local children's hospice Rainbows.

The Foxes' 2016 title-winning skipper is a long-time supporter of the charity and donated £1,000 last season to cover shortfalls caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Morgan, who retired at the end of last season, said: “I am so proud to support Rainbows.

"The work done at the hospice is incredibly important to so many families and is vital to helping children and young people make the most of their short lives."

Following Morgan's retirement, Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha praised him as a legend of the club.

He said: “Wes has been one of Leicester City’s greatest servants, leading the team through the club’s most successful era and helping to set the standards that have pushed the club forward.

“A big brother to everyone he has played with, a strong representative of the squad and a valuable source of counsel to managers and senior executives in the club, his contribution has been enormous.

“Wes has shown throughout his Leicester City career that he has a great deal to offer away from the pitch.

“I’m excited to see how we can help him shape his career after football and how the club can continue to benefit from his experience, knowledge and passion for the game.

The 30-capped Jamaica international won the club's Player of the Season award in his first full campaign.

He was also named in three Championship Team of the Year lists and the 2016 Premier League XI.

As well as Leicester, Morgan also spent ten years playing at Nottingham Forest.

What an amazing gesture! I'm not sure I would donate such a sum from my retirement funds, particularly as he has a lot more years ahead of him. I just hope karma shines on the big man, and make sure he's always able to earn in the years ahead.

I wouldn’t worry too much. I’m confident he’ll have enough funds in the bank for a comfortable retirement even if he never works again and lives to be the oldest man in history.

There are PLENTY of well off people who don't give anything - I know some of them. I'd also say footballers seem far more inclined to donate due to the overwhelming majority coming from poorer backgrounds.

 

If he inspires just one other rich person to put their hand in their pocket then great.

it's still 10k, how it compares against his riches is irrelevent and it's still 10k more than most people will ever donate to a charity.

I do some fundraising for Rainbows after they cared for my niece when she was needing palliative care, they are an amazing service and the staff are totally amazing 

 

they have their annual firework spectacular at the racetrack again this year ! This is a major fundraiser for the hospice please buy a ticket 👍👍
