Leicester 2-Burnley 2 post match thread.

Recommended Posts

You will not witness any higher level of shithousery in the premier league than Burnley when they are not losing. It would be interesting to see for much of that game the ball was actually in play. The time taken to take throw ins, free kicks and especially goal kicks was off the scale. The referee was really poor and wasn’t paying attention for the majority of the match so they continually got away with it. We basically got to watch half a game at best because of it.

Negative (Shall we all pretend to be surprised?).

Time wasting aside, Burnley are a team who are more positive, with attacking threat, intent and efficiency than us. Let the sink in for a second.

We can’t even take a throw in, we make a meal of it, if it’s in their half or near their goal it’ll end up in our defensive areas, that if we don’t just chuck it straight to the opposition.

Lookman was our best player, literally the only player who wants to take the game by the scruff of it neck, go forward and do something with it. He gets subbed.

****ing joke.

Atleast we won on possession.

It feels like we aren’t a million miles from clicking, but the weak areas are real concerns.

Vestergaard looks a total liability. Just so slow and weak. It made Burnley a real threat going forward every time they went direct.

Our attacking play was a lot better today. Tielemans looked better, Soumare played some really nice stuff and Lookman was our best player. Taking him off was bizarre, as was taking Ricardo off for tactical reasons when we were 2-1 down and their threat on that side had gone off injured.

It feels like a tide is turning with some fans in regards to our playing out from the back, slow build-up and some of Rodger’s decision making. Doesn’t bode well.

We won't be top 5 for sure, I'd say we'll do well for top 7

Think with europa commitments and how we are playing, top 10 wpuld be a plus lol

i won't panic yet though, i have a feeling we will click at some point and go on a good run.

Tielemans and Ndidi are nowhere near their best. Not really their fault as they are playing in nearly every match. Without Mendy ,only Hamza to step in and no Praet so KDH only feasible deputy for Youri. If this continues both of them will be done by Christmas. The defence is getting little cover and the central defenders are far too exposed.

And the owners showed their ruthless streak; makes one wonder how much leeway they'll give to this manager.

I’d imagine they would consider if we were to make it past the europa league stages. However, I don’t think they’d sack him this season.

First of all, our finishing 1H was crap. We easily could have been up a goal or two when they scored. Should have been really. Our attack is dine save for the finishing. Perhaps today gets Vardy going, but to my eye, he is slower, less decisive, and poor in possession. He is clearly diminished from his peak. What level can he still reach is TBD, but when we go stale, we need BR to have the self-assurance to pull him and change it up w Daka and/or Nacho up top.

Especially Nacho. He has to play more. It is time to recognize we may well not be starting our best striker when Vardy's name is in the line-up. As they say, Father Time is undefeated.

But our real.issue is obviously on defense. Finishing is difficult to work on, but defense isn't. Today was a bit of a fluke IMO, but generally speaking, we need to play more conservative football. We cannot play such a high line w Vestergaard out there. We need to get back to basics, shore up and solidify the defense. Even if we have a 0-0 or two, we need to figure out the personnel we need on the field to be tight defensively, then we need to move on to figure out the best personnel to nick a goal or two. We have the quality up-front. We can transition to being a more defensive team while still scoring.

But this playing like we did last season despite our defense being below Prem-standard does not work. We cannot play this style and finish top-6.

Everyone freaking out about Vestergaard needs to calm down. Playing against a Jamie Vardy-type forward is precisely the match-up that will make him look awful. Not simply bc he lacks speed, but bc all the sprinting wears him the F out and the rest of his game suffers. We cannot play such a high-line. He will be essential against better sides who have more of the ball than we do, but these match-ups do not favor him.

We also need to be mindful of being stale. We tend to play close to the same attacking personnel as past seasons, and we look really predictable. Certainly Barnes needs to add a trick or two for variety.

Damn we miss Fofana and Evans. Dammit dammit dammit. If both were healthy we may well be unbeaten right now.

He probably feels that he can’t afford to rest Tielemans and Ndidi because like you say the defense is a shambles. Tielemans played almost all games last year too, and a tournament in the middle. He can be forgiven if he looks a little jaded - but if that is the case, trust in KDH to play some games for Tielemans.

Some honking defending today. We look okay going forward, still not at our levels but the defence is really letting us down. Vydra made Vestegaard look like a donkey today which is very concerning. We shouldn’t be surprised though when 50% of the back 4 today played in a team who has been struggling defensively for the last few seasons…

I said naivety was a problem a few weeks ago, yet again today’s game proved that.

It was a problem at times in the 19/20 season, 20/21 season, now at the start of this season.

The team lacks leadership in defence & midfield, when Evans doesn’t play we have nobody who can step in and be the organiser in defence. Vestergaard & Soyuncu have proven they are absolutely clueless when it comes to organisation.

For all the talent that Ndidi & Tielemans have, they are not leadership material, certainly not yet anyway.

We needed more leadership in the transfer market, we failed, now it’s coming back to bite us.
