Time wasting

Recommended Posts

Ramsdale should have been booked after about 70 minutes. Problem is refs only ever enforce it in the 90+ minutes as a bit of a virtue, if Ramsdale had been booked in the 70th minute and then gets sent off in the 85th he’d be less likely to do it in the future. Until refs are told they should be booking earlier for time wasting nothing will change.
On a side note we’ve been as bad, part and parcel of the game

Always happens. Time waste all 2nd half, produce the first yellow card after the 90th minute. Refs won't want to be under pressure to send someone off for 2 yellows for time wasting by carding someone too early.

I don't blame teams for doing it, but it needs stamping out or if not, the correct amount of time added on.

Best thing about the WC was the injury time. Has to become the norm.

Today was one of the most embarrassing displays of time wasting I think I've ever seen from a team that was the outright favourite by some distance.

The fact they even felt the need shows some considerable mental frailty. They're obviously getting nervous about setting the pace.

Do that against a team interested in attacking, backed up by officials giving the right amount of time, and they'll pay for it.

Was actually bizarre how desperate they were to disrupt a game they had no issues in.

Martinelli went down clutching his leg at one point looking like it would need amputation but when Pawson gave Arsenal the advantage and they were in a good attacking position he was straight back up on his feet. Its cheating.

I was listening to the Bournemouth vs Manchester match on the way home and there was a similar head 'injury' to a ManC player just as the home side were building a bit of momentum. The commentators (ABB & Pulis) looked on their monitor and within seconds said the contact was not to the head. 'that isn't good' was the comment. If the commentators can see it that quickly then surely an official in the stand can also and advise the ref to give a yellow for simulation.

The bottom line is they don't want to fix it and the paying 'customers' as we are now have to lump it or leave it (the latter is fast approaching for me).

It makes me have a despairing laugh when there's talk of new and modified laws when the refs don't even carry out the ones they already have. There's a complete lack of backbone in so many refs. We have all these modifications like the off side flagging to supposedly speed up the game and yet they continually let players flout laws that deliberately slow the game down.

We didn't score because of Arsenal time wasting, we  didn't score because we were shit.

We didn't deserve anything based on the time that was played, but you would've taken a point with a flukey penalty in the 98th minute wouldn't you?

The time that should be added on for cheating should still be added on.

If referees were more consistent in booking people for time-wasting it would stop pretty quickly. You get some players wasting time in minute one, so book them in minute one. Absolutely no reason a throw-in should take more than ten seconds, or a corner more than thirty.

Both time wasting and play acting/simulation (which which can also be linked with the latter) should not only be penalised but called out by commentators and pundits. Name and shame and humiliate the worst offenders - with the added bonus that kids playing the game will be less likely to imitate their idols.

They won’t as it’s the top players who are the worst offenders. If Leicester had sh1thoused Arsenal out of a win you can guarantee Arteta would be calling us out.

There is enough resources in the game to review each game and assess the way the teams behave, highlight the behaviour, fine the players and fine the club. That's the first step, trying to get refs to do anything doesn't work, they are so ingrained in the status quo that all of these initiatives just revert to the norm after a few weeks.

Anyone judged to be holding their head purely to disrupt play should be banned. Concussion protocols are there for player safety and not to be used to cheat.

Any player that causes the ref to stop play because of a head injury should be immediately subbed as a precaution. Shit housing should not jeopardise player safety.

Because if Arsenal  didnt time waste yesterday we would have easily won....🙄🙄🙄

I think people are calling out cheating rather than suggesting that's the reason we lost.

Plus it's sad to see in the game, whatever team you're watching.

Is anyone blaming the loss on the time-wasting?

Can't it just be discussed as a separate point? It's a valid discussion.

No-one is even saying we definitely would have won, or even drawn, if the right time was added. I think it's just a matter of principle that the referee failed to consider how many stoppages there were due to injuries as well as feigning injuries and time-wasting from restarts of play, and then add that on at the end. It was so, so obvious. Probably to the Arsenal fans as well how much they were taking the piss.

But to debate that point doesn't automatically mean fans are saying we would/should have won. It doesn't even need to be said how shit we were and bringing up xG just labours the point, if anything. Anyone watching the game could see we didn't deserve to win and gave nothing to the game.

The time-wasting chat/observation is valid. Arsenal/Arteta knew what they were doing but they weren't punished for it by the officials.

Seriously. It was obvious we weren't at the races. They could have pressed on and scored more if they were more interested in taking the initiative.
