Failure to clear our lines

Recommended Posts

Just go back to the Ranieri days of sticking 3 players on the half way line when we concede a corner.

I loved it when we did this, and it means their big men really have to think twice before going forwards.
Against Burnley Daka, Barnes and Lookman all on the half way line ready to counter.

The panic when the ball is bouncing around our area:frantics:

It may as well be under 10's on a Sunday afternoon, I totally get professional players can and do lose confidence but I can barely believe what I'm seeing.

Talk about teams below us being rubbish and having to take points of each other and just not being capable of collecting enough points to overtake us...

It's seems we need to score at least 3 ourselves to win a game.

Totally agree. Players like Barnes, Lookman, Vardy and others of their stature offer little in their own box anyway other than get in the way so what's the point. As you rightly say, near the halfway line gives the opposition food for thought and problems. They immediately can't do what they usually or want to do.

Agreed with Barnes, lookman and daka. Vardy does do a decent job as he is a bit more aggressive at the near post.

leaving one up at least would be decent shout.

I have no idea why we haven't at least tried this once? It's not like we're so good at defending corners we don't want to rock the boat.

At the very least it gets some players out of a very crowded box and at the best it could lead to us scoring a break away goal.

We saw how effective a break against a corner can be. Randers broke away from one of our corners and had a three on one were they really should have scored.

Why we don't try this is just another one of the baffling decisions to add to the seasons list.

......it is not as if the manager and his staff would not have seen this, we either choose not to analyse these situations or the analysts do not understand the figures they are getting back!!!

There is a tendency for players to be getting into each others way, a group of our players surrounding each other without an opposition player in the picture, and players who are static against opposition players attacking the ball. Wilf is poor if he has to jump, and head the ball, he is unable to judge the speed and trajectory and is poor in that respect.  He should be near post, no need to jump, just to head the ball away. If the ball coming in to him is chest high, then he can control it and send it forward for players with have left up the pitch.

We need at least 2 players left up the pitch, they will have to leave their Centre Backs (less threat in our box)  or other outfield players to cover our counter attack. This is yet another illustration of continuing to do something that does not work, but hoping the resultant tactic will be successful from its other failures before.

Even more baffling that Rodgers hasn't tried this as he still has Kasper, Vardy and Albrighton there to put the idea in his head.
