Poor overall, but Bertrand can see the whole picture there and should be experienced enough to realise if he steps up he's off

The selection of Bertrand over Thomas looked stupid even before the game started, but his performance was even worse than could have been expected and makes his selection simply incomprehensible.

 

If Thomas had to be left out because of saving him for Newcastle, could a rookie from the development squad have performed any worse than Bertrand.  At least he would have shown more enthusiasm, commitment and energy.
