Atmosphere at the KP

People using the clappers along to the tune of that awful jazzed up PHG at the start of the second half was both hilarious and tragic. It's as though they are being forced to use them at all times.

Agree with the comments on the clappers ruining virtually every song after 10 seconds. Sounds hideous and hinders the very commendable efforts of those who try and get some natural noise going.

Seeing the two things  at once is like seeing a car driving with no wheels, it's embarrassing. I also hate when some sing along to the goal song even though it doesn't have true lyrics... Du du du.... So embarrassing man.

I didn't think anything would beat Chelsea Dagger for Godawfulness with regards to goal music but this pushes it close. Fire wasn't great but it didn't take over anywhere near as much.

Only saving grace so far is that we've avoided using Sweet Caroline. Hearing that cardboard clapped along to whilst people belt out SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD could see the club closed and understandably so.

Would be well embarrassing if we did that, might as well call ourselves crystal palace

We did something like this (pre-match) in 2005-06 where the Birch read out the first name and the fans were supposed to shout the surname. It didn't work though because Birch couldn't read the names probably, a worrying amount of fans didn't know who the players were and it was overall pretty cringe.

You only needed one name.

If you watch this (recorded by a Brentford fan on Saturday) you can see how the club might think that most people like the goal music. There's a definite 'response' to it when it comes on and everything dies after it stops. 7 seconds from ball in net to music on is a bit sickening though.

With respect, I think it's a very good comparison.

The average football fan would see us and Stoke (along with a few other clubs like West Brom, Birmingham, Forest, Derby, Cov) as similar-ish sized Midlands clubs, who generally haven't done too much ... but have had the odd good spell (obviously "good" being a relative term).

Over the last few decades, Stoke's support has varied from abysmal to brilliant, and all shades in between.    As you correctly say, it was great for their first few years in the Premier League ... after the b'stards relegated us in 2008 ... but then drifted off into mid table nothing, until finally getting relegated.

I'd certainly put Leicester, Forest and Derby in a tier above Stoke and Coventry but I get your point.

I  hate to say it  but Forest  was hardly an odd spell 2   european cups

Stoke comparison is odd. We won our first FA Cup less than a year ago,  it should still be buzzing. They won nothing in their Prem years.

Three biggest factors this season are the Club's vision of what it wants support in the stadium to be, the fans response to that and just how this season has played out. Fofana getting snapped and the subsequent months of inconsistencies and struggle was a dagger. Then consider the injury time Tottenham capitulation and Snotts Forest blitzing us, it's safe to assume quite a few fans now have their tail between their legs in seeing this season out.

... but Conference League is something we can still go for this season, players should be coming back to fitness.

I know not being given a "section" to make noise in is abit of a kick in the teeth for those inclined, but it shouldn't stop you singing your heart out on the night. Make some ****ing noise Leicester, and stop moaning.

Yeah to be fair that sounds pretty good from an away end. It’s only us who find it cringe. I really like the song and I remember it playing against Sevilla after FT and it was VERY LOUD. I just don’t think it’s great as goal music but that’s mainly because I hate goal music full stop.

You need to remember the old European Cup in it's knock-out format was easier to win than the FA Cup. That's why you'll see the likes of Steaua Bucharest, Hamburg, Red Star Belgrade, PSV etc on the winners list. One of NottsF finals was against Malmo! It was a great competition to win in its day but no comparison to the modern day Champions League. A small club cannot win that.

I think this is natural though. They could play any song and the fans would join in, within reason. For me the issue isn't goal music as that's never going away but more the insistence to hit max volume

Fact is if there is genuinely enough opposition the club will listen. Its reliant and answerable to its customer base.

I see a lot of people on here who either don't go to games and watch on TV or who claim to not bother going anymore because the atmosphere is so bad.

If people are serious and there is genuinely enough opposition to it, may I suggest doing something coordinated rather than just moaning on a forum or writing an angry letter to Jim. A petition or something to gauge genuine dissatisfaction?

Correct.

Very easy to get involved in posturing on a football forum but it won’t get change. And boy is there some posturing in this thread ! With all these hardcore ultra supporters who sing their hearts out for 90 minutes every single game and are gods gift to the football supporting world, it’s a wonder the stadium is so quiet.

Something doesn’t add up and I suspect we can all work out what it is.

You have to love this modern world where perception and online persona matters so much more than substance and reality.

Truth is that most of the grumblers are just stuffed shirts. Couldn’t change their underpants let alone the atmosphere at the ground.

And if they CAN then the answer is simple.

DO.

ACTA NON VERBA.

And I just had a horrible flashback to the relegation season, where for quite a few successive home games they went into the crowd to find a random person to read out the Leicester team. Jesus Christ that was bad.

Blimey, the memories I’ve repressed!

I have a tendency to remember the comically bad and even I'd forgotten that torture.

I sometimes have cringeworthy flashbacks to the Sir Winston Birchenall speech before the Man City home game when we were relegated from the PL in 2004.

The funny thing is, these clubs such as Man United and Liverpool that people like to call plastic and tourist clubs.... If they introduced goal music it would be gone by the next game. There would be so much uproar by the fans.

Turns out we're the plastic club afterall.

Why isn't it going away? It DID go away recently, we didn't have it. The music returned post pandemic.

lol oh my GOD.

WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER! NEVER!

Pretty sure we were relegated a week later.

I was very small at the time but why do I remember him wearing a top hat for that speech too? Please say that wasn't reality.

EDIT: Nah it was like a trilby or fedora wasn't it!?
