Relative to its competitors on track, this might be one the most dominant F1 car of all time.  Verstappen could literally start every race at the back of the grid and still be one of the favourites to win.

Unless the FIA cripple Red Bull as punishment for exceeding the budget cap the novelty is going wear off very quickly (even for the Anybody But Merc/Hamilton crowd).  Might as well rip up the regulations and start again TBH.  Or maybe just ban Adrian Newey lol

I doubt this is what Liberty/Ross Brawn/F1 envisaged when they drew up the new regs.

If F1 carries on for the next 15 years as it has for the last 9 (two different formula's) and Verstappen is fortunate to be in a race winning car, he could easily end up with 150+ wins

Incredible from Max - the boy will break all the records. Hope he gets at least one more for the 14 wins in a season. Highly suspect they'll focus on Perez next week though and try and get him a home win. They might as well.

The Russell 5 seconds was a joke. How is it fair that you can just smash out one of your rivals and only lose 5 seconds? Should have been at least a stop-go. He had no intention of making the corner. In those situations where you're completely at fault for a crash and your rival retires, it should be a black flag.

Yea he got off lightly all things considered.  Had his eyes on Hamilton the entire way up the hill with the aim of pushing him out wide to get himself ahead.  The problem was that there was a Ferrari in the way.  :frusty:

Didn’t realise Alonso got demoted to 15th but probably no surprise unfortunately for him .

Haas placed an appeal against him and Perez for having unsafe cars, appeal against Perez failed but was successful against Alonso,

Alpine have counter appealed and seem to have a pretty strong case for Alonso to get his points back

“The FIA has the right to black and orange flag a car during the race if they consider it unsafe and, on this occasion, they assessed the car and decided not to action the flag. Moreover, after the race, the FIA technical delegate considered the car legal.

“The team also believes due to the protest being lodged 24 minutes past the specified deadline, it should not have been accepted and therefore the penalty should be considered as invalid.

“As a result of this point, the team has protested the admissibility of the original Haas F1 Team protest.”

The next stage

Team representatives from Alpine and Haas will now meet for a hearing via video conference on Thursday, ahead of this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix. The first hearing will be to determine if Alpine’s protest is admissible and if the stewards find that it is, another meeting will be arranged.

It won't though. Redbulls car advantage is down to aerodynamics which can easily be copied simply by looking a the car, taking detailed photos and then working out what's going on., teams have spotters all around the circuits and overlooking the pits and garages that take thousands of photos during each race. Mercedes had a massive advantage due to an engine developed nearly 2 years before the hybrid era came in that was also a development from technolgies that ilmor owned who mercedes bought out, they also built a factory to develop the kinetic recovery system. The reason for mercedes' dominance was simply down to the fact that other teams could not catch up and engine power is very difficult to overcome with aerodynamics. The thing about an engine is you can't copy it cos you can't see it and you definealty can't see the internals and each part of the engine is controlled by different departments so it's hard for someone to take the technology with them if they leave. It took until last year for Honda to catch up because of the minor token changes that could be made under the rules.

Arguably they have the best engine right now too. I get your point and while Mercedes did have a headstart, I don't recall them having much of an engine advantage from 2017 onwards (at a guess?) Thats still more than half Hamilton's titles won with no huge engine advantage

Red Bull also poached a majority of Mercedes engine staff too recently which has massively helped them. Don't need to spend tokens when making use of a brain drain.
