Charles De Ketelaere

I think we’ve agreed everything with this lad, he’s waiting. We just need some cash/ departure because this was rumoured months and months ago! Bit like the soumare deal but taking a bit longer

Brilliant!

"Ok Charles, thats all the paperwork signed and sorted. And the fee agreed with Brugge. So we're all ready to go. One small hitch, we haven't actually got the money to buy you. Or indeed pay you. Oh and there's also no room in the squad. But other than that... What's that Romano chap say?..."

Excerpts from a piece just published in the Athletic by Tanner and their Leeds correspondent:

AC Milan appear to be the front-runners in the race to sign Charles De Ketelaere ...

De Ketelaere could be the answer at [RW] and is adaptable enough to slot into other roles because manager Brendan Rodgers frequently changes formations, but Leicester fear his stock has risen so fast that he could now be out of their reach financially, especially as they are yet to make any room in their squad this summer with outgoings ...

[Leeds] are not making a secret of the fact they like him, although they know Milan are the favourites — especially if Club Bruges’ valuation continues to rise. Milan are also believed to be De Ketelaere’s preferred destination.

Milan’s transfer activity has been delayed by the situation surrounding the contracts of the Serie A champions’ technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Ricky Massara, but both extended their deals last night so that issue is now resolved.

We've been bad at getting rid of players we don't want since Pearson left.

Correction… we’ve signed a lot of shit players and massive wages that makes them hard to shift.

If other teams are shifting shit players they are taking massive losses to do so, they aren’t miracle workers.

Yeah I was thinking about this, the only teams that find it easier are the big 6 but even they only move on the players who others can afford very easily and for decent fees (essentially academy players mostly).

If there was going to be one team outside that lot that potentially got some interest it would surely be us, we've been very successful and I'm really surprised we've not had some plucky bids for fringe players who have done fairly well such as Iheanacho, Amartey etc. Fair enough the expensive flops we've very little chance of getting rid without pain and anguish.

If we can shift soyuncu, praet and another (perez, choudhury, mendy or amartey) we'd probably only fetch about 30m but probably about 200k a week in wages so there's plenty of headroom there.

A bit like comparing Apples and Pears, for most of Pearson tenue we were a Championship club, which meant we are paying wages comparable with the rest of Europe, once you are a PL club you start to pay wages that can only be matched by a select group of the clubs across Europe, it a problem for the majority of PL clubs.

Stick everyone we need to move on in the u23's till they decide to accept lower wages at their new clubs.

We need make some power plays.

Or they just sit in the u23 running getting paid the same and running down their contract and getting a nice signing-on fee as a free agent.

Would you take a pay cut?

The U23 route is just to put a fire under them, and convince them they aren't gonna be able to fight for their places. I expect most of those who aren't in the manager's plans, but are on high salaries, will end up going out on loan later in the window.

Leeds are going to have a lot of money to spend with the sales of Raphinha and Phillips. If they really want him and are the only ones putting up the cash, De Kaetelaere may have a change of heart and feel like Leicester and Milan don't want him as much as they say they do.

It would be a risk for him because Leeds really need to strengthen in a multitude of areas. De Kaetelaere isn't going to be the answer to all their problems and they may need to spread their money a bit more widely.

Hopefully we can hold on until the funds become available whenever that may or whatever needs to happen to facilitate that (new FFP period, player sales, etc.).
