They appointed Roberto De Zerbi and have signed some interesting players like Hojberg and Greenwood (yuck). Will be interesting to see how he does there, PSG are dominant but after that anyone can surge up the league. It might also be like Italy where players that are OK here end up being amazing over there, see Pulisic, Tomori, Abraham, etc.

The amount of passing involved in a De Zerbi system as well means a water carrier is usually pretty useful, too. That would probably suit Soumare, rather than in the Premier League for us where there is going to be a lot more transitions of play at high-speed.

De Zerbi has gone in with a cut throat mindset by the looks of it. They are having a proper clear out, former English based players all gone or going in Mbemba, Veretout, Sarr, Ndiaye and Aubameyang.

Could see why they’d be interested in Soumare with Veretout, Kondogbia and Ounahi likely to leave.

English based players going over there has been a total mixture imo, look at Iliman Ndiaye for example, already back in England after one season lol But then you have players like Kevin Danso, Jake O’Brien and Folarin Balogun didn’t make the grade in England, but they’ve all thrived in France over the past season or two.

Hate we’re talking about the same hangers on year after year. If we can exit this transfer window with a squad of players on low wages and at least a price tag that someone’s willing to pay down the line, then it has been a success

We always find a way to add to it as well.

A lot of Marseille accounts reporting they’re in for Soumaré. Would put it in the Soumaré transfer thread but it has been locked… (note amazing photoshop job 😅)

No wonder Soumare struggles to get round the pitch, carrying that mahoosive head.

To go from wanting one of the more hard working and energetic midfielders in Ligue 1 in Neil El Aynaoui, to looking at a World Class jogger in Boubakary Soumare as an alternative, is like going out to buy a Ferrari but you end up bringing home a Tractor.

Last time he played in Ligue 1 he was a starting midfielder in a team that won the league and not with one of PSG, Monaco or Lyon. He'll do fine going back to France, you can see why French clubs think he'd be an alright bit of business for 10-15m.

He did have a good season at sevilla though. I think he will definitely get a move off of the back of it. Won’t work in england but his style works in france… he’s just like ndombele

Just have to hope his wages don’t put the breaks on any potential move as he supposedly had to take a pay cut just to go out on loan

If this doesn’t work, can we just plant drugs in his locker please.

More likely to find Ovaltine, Horlicks the speed he moves at, pretty certain he has not entered 2024 yet.

Wasnt he a sub mostly for that Lille team?

No he was mainly a starter.

I remember when we signed him he had some unreal ball carrying stats - was a really good signing on paper. Shame it’s not worked out for him here.

Maybe so Finners, he’ll probably end up in France somewhere, I just find the Monaco link odd as they are one of the most intense pressing teams in Ligue 1, El Aynaoui is injured but I can understand why they wanted him, Soumare would be a weird fit for them, but if they are kind enough to take him off our hands, then lovely jubbly.

Rather tellingly played 1915 minutes over 32 games - meaning 60 minutes a match

Snap their hands off for £15m. Was really excited when he joined, but he just hasn't seemed to suit English football. Then again, maybe it was the Rodgers effect—who knows. If we can get that much for him though, we should take it. I'm sure he'd do well back in France.

Saying that, I always thought De Zerbi liked industry in his midfielders...but could be horrendously wrong.

This is an excellent point. How did he watch his team maul ours 5-2 in 2022 and think “that lad’s got something”

Leicester City, Leeds United, Hull City and Burnley are all in the picture to sign Brahima Diarra this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

Been linked with this guy before. A weird one because he's at Huddersfield where he was bang average at best, being more of a squad player. He's at the Olympics now, but not seen what he's been like.

However, if he's a cheap signing with upside, I could see the interest. 21 years old, plays as a CAM.

I'm convinced most of this "credited with an interest/rumoured to be interested/keeping an eye on" etc, is based on the journalist/twitter 14 year old just doing a Google search on the players name.

Half of these players like Doak, Cantwell, Diarra are just guys we had an interest in a year or more ago.
