Forest away

Before Clough turned up at Forest and started being successful there, Forest considered us and Notts County to be their main rivals and not Derby.

What I do find quite strange is how a relatively significant number among our support reject Coventry as a rival when they are very vocal about how much they hate us. Also, if you were to drive from our ground to Cov's you'd get there far quicker than you would if you were to drive to Forest.

I've never been that fussed about Derby. It's maybe an age thing as I was too young to remember the games in the 90s. I do however take a huge amount of pride in being top dogs in our part of the country.

Yea. It's always been cov for me.

🤣 it’s daft ain’t it, it’s literally 15/20 mins down the A6 your in the city centre it’s hardly that far away

The rivalry with the trees is real to me. Growing up in 1960s Blaby, as part of Greater Leicester there were no Forest fans at all and the hatred was visceral.

It probably mattered that Direby was still in the old second division and Cov only came up, I think in 1967.

Then, too, Leicester and Nottingham were similar cities,  regional rivals and with similar economies (hosiery and engineering). Cov by contrast was car city - the Detroit of England and part of the west Midlands. Size wise Nottingham was the larger in those days while Leicester is bigger now.

I've posted on here before that I'm glad to see Cov reviving - there but for the grace of God could have gone us. But forest...jeez....nothing better after all these years on  Saturday afternoon to see us win, the trees lose, and then head over to their forum for a good gloat

I don’t think the Cov rivalry should be downplayed totally. There’s plenty of blues down in south Leicestershire who would happily see them go bust. Make no mistake as well, Cov fans ****ing despise us.

Exactly this. If his mum had required specialist care during childbirth and went down to Addenbrookes Hospital, it wouldn’t make KDH a ‘Cambridge lad’

The Queens Medical Centre is slightly quicker to get to from Shepshed than the LRI. That's probably the extent of KDH's connection to Nottingham.

Exactly.

I don’t really care about Coventry, I enjoy playing them because lots of our supporters and their supporters care and it adds to the occasion more than playing a club like Preston for example.

but Forest is the biggest rivalry

We should not write off a rivalry with Cov.  Anyone who went to their old ground in the 80's and 90's will let you know how big a rivalry it is. A great day out but you had to watch your back.  Also had a pub called the Sky Blue Tavern for away fans only right outside the ground.

It is good to have these rivals and games against them.  I would have loved them in round 4.  Perhaps we can get them in the 5th round if we both get through.

Living in Hinckley, it's safe to say for us down here, there is a much bigger rivalry with Cov. Loads of mates support Cov. I don't know a single Forest fan. From a city of Leicester perspective, Forest/Leicester is the biggest local rivalry (and obviously the further north you go out of the city).

Re the comment about going bust, I am probably the opposite. I would much rather have all of our rivals in the PL with us. I wouldn't wish anyone to go bust. There is probably a divide in the fanbase, some want rivals to be as far away as possible, some want to mix with them on a regular basis. I think it makes games more interesting.

I’m from Hinckley and Bosworth too originally, so I’m on the same page as you. Going to school in Market Bosworth too we had a lot of fans from Atherstone way who were a mix of Cov and Villa fans. If I was to weigh it up myself I think I’d probably say Cov are top of my list, that’s the more bitter rivalry for me.

Again, I’m probably the same, but I also know a lot of lads who don’t really care and would want them out of business above anything else, as I say, it’s quite bitter from both sides, as you’ll know yourself.

It is. Coventry are the club’s rivals but not particularly for myself

Put it this way,

I was born in the city, and grew up in the burbs so equidistant from all of our rivals and Forest is by far our biggest in my view

My ex wife's family are all from Coventry. Had to put up with their glorified celebrations when they won the Cup in 87 and we were struggling so can vouch for the rivalry in the past but also feel smug at how things have turned out since.

Grown up in Nottingham and lived here all my life. They were winning European Cups when we were the total dross. Got stuck at school and at work for years. How the table is turned. So yes, this is an important one for me. Come on you mighty foxes - let’s rub their noses in it

Likewise I went to school in Ashby where it was 50/50 Derby/Leicester

I could probably name you 30 derby fans

I know about 4 Forest fans

0 Cov fans

Coalville is massively Leicester (other than the glory hunting Liverpool and Man Utd fans. I’d say our rivals are Derby.

You go 5 miles across to Shepshed and it’s definitely Forest

Yes the old rivalries are good for the odd cup match but they are all so beneath us now.

That could change of course. Either some of them get up to the Premier league or more likely we go down:P

There's no bragging rights if we beat a medicore forest/derby/cov but they will cream themselves if they but us.
