Makes it exciting because it really is unforgiveable IF we lose this. There will be scenes in the away end whether we score a late goal or give them an absolute pasting.

We don't really have a local rival and I don't understand the desperation to have one.

 

Their fans are probably looking on here and based on some of the reactions, Forest fans will be thinking this is our biggest game of the season.

 

It's not. 

 

It's a cup tie against an average Championship team.

There is a significant rivalry because it's an East Midlands derby between the two biggest teams in the region. It isn't a "local" derby though; to me local is within walking distance.

As a City fan who went to school in Notts, I can tell you that there definitely is a rivalry. My Forest mates hate Leicester and never miss a chance to let me know.

It's Forest. They've not been relevant to us for about 25 years.

 

I half agree. Only reason I was happy we got them is because I didn't want us to play ****ing Arsenal away. I'm not really that up for this game though tbh.

Who gave you the exclusive rights to determine what games fans should or shouldn’t look forwards to?

 

We are not forests main rivals, of course we aren’t, but their fans will be bang up for this one as well.

 

Stop telling people they shouldn’t look forward to this and if you’re not bothered, don’t invest in it.

There absolutely is a rivalry. Maybe not for any millennials who are too young to remember, but any game with Forest is huge. I went to school in north Leicestershire and at the time Forest were the more successful club. The amount of shit we took off the forest fans was painful, so getting one over on them whenever we can is an absolute must. Can’t wait for this game!

To be fair that definition would almost entirely eliminate local derbies, even in multi team cities.

I work in education and used to teach in North Manchester. Last year I somehow had a lad who was about 11 who supported Forest - tbf his dad was a fan and took him to games.  His jaw dropped when he found out I was a city fan and turned up one day with my beanie hat on.

This “rivalry” debate always re-emerges when we play Derby or Forest.

 

In my experience I’ve never known a Leicester fan as desperate to create a rivalry with Forest as a Forest fan is to tell us that: “we’re not their rivals”. That’s because the whole Forest/Derby thing is an important part of their identity. I don’t know whether it’s so important to Forest/Derby because it makes them feel relevant and a reminder of better times, but the reality is that it’s incredibly small fry. You don’t often hear a Liverpool fan say Everton aren’t their rivals or a Man Utd fan say that Man City aren’t theirs. That’s despite the fact that Liverpool and Man Utd reserve the biggest rivalry for each other.

 

This game will be hugely significant to many of us, like me, who work with quite a few Forest fans. To us a game against Forest, Derby and Coventry all have a bit of extra interest and spice. Even Villa games do these days. There is room for many rivalries and, really, they are only defined by the personal interest of those fans who engage with them more. You don’t get any more points for winning.

 

The Forest game will come and go and people will enjoy it a little bit more than many other games. But they’ll quickly go back to hardly getting a mention on this forum and we’ll go back to hardly getting a mention on theirs. I’m not sure you’d be able to say the same about their obsessional interest in Derby as both clubs continual to wallow in their own past glories - seemingly unaware of their continual irrelevance to all, but each other

Fair enough if you want to say there’s not much there now, but that isn’t true, pre Clough it was both teams biggest rivalry and the whole we don’t care about you stuff probably didn’t even come around until the 2000s.

 

Each to their own, most our fans seem up for it and plenty of theirs do to, if you and some of their fans aren’t then that’s perfectly fine, but honestly I wouldn’t be surprise if they sold out for it, something they failed to do tonight for a “big 6” side.
