Youri Tielemans

Should we be selling Maddison this summer then?

We have an option on extending Maddison's contract to 2025 without any new negotiation. No immediate rush to sell unless he wants to go.

I have seen rumours about them being interested in/bidding for Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio

https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/youri-tielemans-arsenal-central-midfield-24429169

Arsenal ‘cooled’ their interest on Youri Tielemans earlier in the window despite confidence toward the end of the previous season that he was a key target for the summer. It was said the club were looking to focus on other targets for the time being.

The understanding remains that despite potential intentions to formalise their ambitions for Tielemans in the form of a bid, this is yet to happen. This has been a frustrating saga for fans who have struggled to understand why Arsenal are not taking the plunge.

An explanation was offered by Belgian football journalist Sacha Tavolieri with sources close to the player’s entourage. He told The Gooner Talk that Arsenal have a higher priority central midfield target that has so far remained out of the public eye.

“It was quite a bit strange because the entourage and the player understands he was not at a certain moment the priority of Arsenal. So, they didn’t want to go for him as a priority one hundred per cent,” Tavolieri explained.

Going further he added, “[Arsenal] have a target and a main target in the midfield that is not Tielemans. That is also not [Amadou] Onana. They want the player absolutely, and they want to get him.

“Tielemans is seen as a good opportunity to get but in the meaning of Arsenal, they are telling ‘Okay, he has one [year] contract left, we have the time, we can go for the 10th or the 15th of August. Let’s go to our priority, if this doesn’t happen, okay we have the time to go for Tielemans. So no hurry about this.”

You’d think the way Arsenal are playing this is raising alarm bells for Youri.

Anyone would like to feel they are a priority when moving, but Arsenal are messing around here. And suggests he won’t be treated as a priority if he moves.

Who wants to move somewhere when they’re publicly seen as a second best option?

Plus he has to perform 100% from day one, otherwise he could lose out in the World Cup squad

No way we're waiting 15th August for Youri/Arsenal to make a decision.

If they sign him, he's not even guaranteed to be a starter. They are filling their bench. That is what should be setting off alarm bells.

He arguably should be sitting on our bench let alone their's.

Would not be surprised if we've seen very little players moved on before then and therefore very few, if any signings in. I think it will be bedlam that final week of the window for us and I'm fearful we have enough resource in place to deal with it, multiple deals isn't our strong point.

The less they pay us, the more they can pay him. He could quite easily be in on it.

If any of that is even remotely true, it is amongst the worst of worst practice to attract and engage new employees.

I'm calling it out as bunkum.

So often we read about players having to be sold to; the vision the new club has of thier role amongst the new team, the coaching to develop thier own game; scouting reports that impress the player with insight. Like fck would a player and agent at elite level allow themselves to be a b list player ot a b list club. Bayern or Barca maybe. But perennial 6th/7th level club? Do us a favour

I think all fans will be frustrated if this is the case, given our track record with late signings we could be in a spot of bother.

We need to force the issue a little more and be firm with Youri and his agent, need him focused when the season starts.

How do we force the issue?

Can we just remember that arsenal haven't even bud for youri.

The papers make up shit and turn it into a big circus when reality is, nothing has happened.

Don't believe everything you read when it comes to transfer rumours :nigel:

I understand the sentiment that lots of posters jabe expressed for issuing a deadline, but big business doesn't work like that.

Exampke I can think of is to Imagine you have a 250k value house. And you agree with the Mrs that you won't sell if it means moving out over Xmas. Someone offers you 240k? Yep, obvs you tell the buyer to stuff it. Someone offers you 280k on the condition the gaff is empty on Xmas eve....you still tell them to stick it?

We can't and won't give any deadlines. As, essentially, we are the contract holder and can make a decision that suits us when it suits us. If it doesn't suit us, we keep the player. No deadline needed
